280zx Cooling system hoses

Chaps,

Just doing a bit of ***-ivation  on my 280zx and thought I'd pass on this info:

a) Due to old age of the hoses, I have replaced the 2 that go to the heater matrix ( through the bulkhead ), these are pretty expensive for genuine replacement items but I have a friend who works for a car cooling system hose manufacturer, he owed me a favour and spent his time looking for 2 more generally available cooling hoses that match the bends. The good news is that he found some, 1 is almost a perfect copy of the input hose and the other replicates the 'S' shape of the output hose ( it requires a couple of straight pieces of hose at either end to make it the right length - which is an easy job )
He can get the 2 hoses for about £20, which is about a third of the price of replacements and is hard to tell any difference when installed.

b) The little T-shaped brass (?) valve in the heater matrix output pipe ( along side the engine block near the dipstick ) had a minor weep from the bottom. I've managed to repair this with a new o-ring ( you just have to carefully bend back the little tabs on the bottom and extract the plastic insert where the o-ring lives )

Cheers
Ash

The guy earns a bit of 'pocket money' by selling hoses to people with older cars - he just takes a stroll through the warehouse or works from cad drawings, which have item codes rather than part numbers, so he wouldn't necessarily know where the hose is destined to end up. The main point is that the hoses are from current mass production cars and he gets them at 'cost plus a bit'.

Anyone know how well the silicone hoses fit that is available all over ebay? They're only $39 or so.
