does anyone know of anywhere trustworthy and knowledgable to re-vamp my engine /or replace with a new one ? I am open to any ideas or sugestions ,new member ,had My zx for 10 years ,but off the road for 3 years ,I live in Croston , near Preston ,Lancashire. All help would be greatly appreciated as he needs to be restored to his former glory (although still a very good looker) .Thanks.

Engine starts fine even after 7 months ,it revs evenly right round but once you put it in gear it has no power at all ,absolutly zilch with my foot to the floor it only just manages to pull away . Any ideas? Anyone.

Just a suggestion but are you getting full throttle still?
An engine will rev right around with only a rats nat of throttle in neutral, but under load it will fall flat on its face.

Also how old is the fuel you are trying to run the car on?
Fuel deteriorates over time.
Fuel injection?
Does the airflow metre flap move freely?

thanks Wyn ,not sure what you mean by full throtle, fuels fine & air flow meter flap moves fine? If it makes any diference it was turbo`d but I took it all off & put it back to standard, since then no power at all!

Cheers !

Does the throttle butterfly open fully when the throttle is depressed?
It may be its only part opening giving no power under load?
Possibility if the inlet assembly has been dismantled?
Get someone to press the throttle to the floor and from in the engine bay watch the throttle linkage to be sure it opens fully

If it drove ok before you removed the kit imo it should still drive ok. Can only be something silly that’s been overlooked?

Hi Chef,

How did you remove the turbo, what bits did you remove and did you refit everything as should be prior to having the turbo installed? Removal is the reverse of the installation procedure, and I am thinking that something may not have been removed or put back as should be.

Possibly the vent line set up or the throttle chamber hose to air regulator set up?

I am not such a technical guru, so I hope i have given some food for thought for someone else to but in and offer some assistance and advice.

Out of curiosity why remove the turbo :).. Have you any bits left over?

If the engine had been built with dished pistons and a P90 head for turbo, you may now have a normally aspirated engine with a 7.5:1 compression ratio - not ideal.

Also, check the old favourite of correct cam / crank relationship and oil pump / distributor alignment if the head has been off.

Thanks for taking the time to think , I'll investigate your sugestions ,just not much time at the moment being achef and all that.I'll post any findings as soon as I get chance to look,

Thanks again,
chef
