    I'm thinking of replacing mine with some plasma cut stainless steel ones, but there is a pressed metal block at the end towards the car, so I might be out of luck, I was thinking of cutting the pressed block off my old ones and re-using it on my new ones by folding the new strap over at the end...

    If you are looking to find any imperfections what so ever in your paintwork, then I can recommend autoglym gloss finish. It worked for me, now I know where every little undulation is and I can also  look forward to much more work,all I wanted was a nice shine!. sometimes ignorance is bliss.
