    Robin Hood Stages Rally

Phantom Van ( Lost ) on the M1 ! The Red Van you are referring to was the illustrious 'Z Farm' Van towing my own Rally car.... and No, I wasn't lost getting back to Thirsk from the Rally, the car was being towed down to MIRA ( near Nuneaton ), for an Acoustic Recording session for a Computer...

Fratteroli's Historic Win Terrific Performance by Domenic to win his first Historic Rally last weekend ! And, it should be measured by the quality and quantity of the Competition - there are several serious Teams in the MSA British Historic Championship these days. We are talking guys...

Hi Danny -just in case your'e interested, we have just brought in two 280ZX 2+2's for breaking, with some pretty good parts on them still, including a Kaminari front spoiler. We are not far away from you just outside of Thirsk, ( just off the A1 ), so please call me on 01845 587100 if we can...

    Fuel pump wiring

Hi Simon - hope you and your 260Z are well. The most common problem with wiring around the fuel tank/Electric Fuel pump area lies with the power supply coming from the rear deck/rear lighting loom over the Fuel Tank. Just about the worst place in the whole car to get to..... Try testing...

    2+2 260 virgin. help!!

Toopy - the costs of a Bare metal Respray are about 120 hours of skilled labour ( around £26/£28/hr ), plus paint & materials - around £600-£700 ), making it about the £4,000 mark. This is without factoring in the costs of any Restoration/repair work to the bodyshell & panels ( i.e. cutting...

Quaife ATB LSD, R180 or R200?

Bit hard to find a 3.9:1 R200 Diff, as the standard Ratios were 3.7 ( Manual 5-speed ) or 3.54 ( Auto ). I don't think we've ever had one in stock that was not converted to the LSD for Competition ( and therefore expensive ! ). You might try Dave Jarman at DJ Road & Race Services ( not on...

Quaife ATB LSD, R180 or R200?

An LSD would not, to the best of my knowledge, make the diff any stronger; indeed, logically, it would put more stress into the cwp and thus fail sooner. Good (non-LSD) standard cwp R200's are plentiful and pretty cheap, so why stick with a weaker unit ? Also, has anyone successfully...

    electronic ignition...?

Greg - the distance between the ram pipe ends and the Air Filter plate is critical - it should be 1.5 X the choke size of the carbs, otherwise the plate is restricting the air flow to the intakes.

    R180 3.9 LSD diff

Greg - re: the necessity for an Oil Cooler for Road use - of course, it depends on the type of driving - how hard & severe you drive it . Remember that this was the problem all the early Works Rally cars failed with ( i.e. before they fitted/connected the Oil Coolers ), on the RAC Rally &...

    Gaydon(AGM)yesterday

Thought it was a touch Ironic to choose to host the AGM at the Museum for the British Motor Industry, for the make of Cars which almost dug the Grave for the British Motor Industry....... Or, is it just my mischevious mind ?

    How do you measure cams?

Cam Timing - the standard Datsun Cam sprocket has only limited variation ( 3 x holes = three settings only), and usually only gets you within 3-4 degrees from correct. It does'nt sound much, but makes a big difference in eventual power output and carburation work. When you have spent a...

    How do you measure cams?

Yup, the E30 is the standard camshaft, but it still may have been modified. The Cam Suppliers re-grind them to a higher lift profile, and then put their own stamp on the end face ( the rear end face that is), with a code - usually consisting of one or two letters then a number to indicate the...

    Help - inner wing rust

Huw - the only way to sort the 280ZX damage is to cut out the corroded areas and re-form the same sections with 18swg mild steel panels. As far as I know, you can't buy those ones new ( or ever could ), so they need to be made to suit. You can use the existing sections ( before removal ) as...

Hi Sutty - regarding your quest for a good quality 260Z 2+2 : If you are still looking for one, we have been offered a nice sound tidy example which we supplied to a local Owner about eighteen months ago, and so we know it quite well. Standard spec example in Red with 240Z carbs, polished...

    Engine stand

Thanks, Alan; being a simple Northern Lad, I reckon a simple question deserves a simple answer. But those much more intelligent than I can articulate the theory of which bolt to select for each job....... Gosh, I just live in admiration..........

    Wish me luck

Yes - exactly the same securing/locating bolts. Just be sure to keep the steering rack with the same crossmember, though ( Rack bushes are different betwen the 240Z & 260Z )

What size centre bore for a wheel spacer?

At the risk of being the Grumpy Old Man on this Site, a word of warning on the subject of fitting the proposed adaptors onto the front of your 'Z' :- 1) You will be putting a huge increase in the stress loading on the wheel bearings by fitting them. If you imagine using a lever to lift...
