    73 RAC Rally - 240Zs

Mention of Andy Dawson is interesting. I did the 1973 RAC International with Andy in a 'works' Chrysler Avenger Tiger whilst Kevin was in the 240Z with Peter Rushforth. We got a class win in Gp.1 up to 1600 cc and 2nd overall Gp.1, beaten by a BMW2002 Tii. When we did the article for Historic...

    73 RAC Rally - 240Zs

I just got the sad news that Kevin Videan, who as many will know drove a 240Z for Old Woking with me, passed away this morning whilst sitting in his MG. Sad news of the loss of a fine 240Z driver and, for me, a good friend. We had a lot of fun rallying together. RIP Kevin.

    73 RAC Rally - 240Zs

Yes, that was strange. Tony nwas also a good friend of mine and we lived quite close to each other and used to go to the boozer regularly. It was vrey sad when I learned that he was gone and, in fact, led to me deciding to retire from my business just 2 weeks later. Couldn't see the point in...

    73 RAC Rally - 240Zs

Kevin was very worried about doing serious damage to the brand new shell right before the RAC, especially at it was the car's very first event. We both agreed that taking it easy was the only real option and that dropped us from 1st to 4th. He really was blisteringly quick in any car. Just to...

    73 RAC Rally - 240Zs

All I can say it "It was a lot of fun1". The Big-Z was unique on MN events and for years everyone had said that despite winning really rough events like Safari, it could never be competitive on twisty tarmac. Kevin proved them all wrong and I have to say that the way he handled that unweildy car...

    73 RAC Rally - 240Zs

Here is another shot of Kevin and me with the Big-Z at the start of, I think, the Jim Clark Rally in 1974. We look so young there!

    73 RAC Rally - 240Zs

In 1988 I was asked to take LPE66P to a charity event in London Docklands. I went to Woking by train with my then 14-year old son Mick. Had a cup of tea and Ron Hicks who said that the car was all ready and to just help myself with some petrol and they'll collect the car on Sunday when they came...

    73 RAC Rally - 240Zs

Where did you get that photo of the start of the '73 Vales with Kevin in the car with one of the Old Woking mechanics, the other mechanic by the door and the optional 'Welsh groupies' and me on the left. Those were the days.

    73 RAC Rally - 240Zs

What happened was that we had a huge 'shunt' on the Gremlin when the Trelleborg tyres melted when braking for a T-junction on the Eppynt army ranges and we went head on into a big bank, destroying the bodyshell. Back at old Woking there was a 'works' car and the UK registration was transferred...

    73 RAC Rally - 240Zs

Yes, I have 'Memory Lanes' - in fact I wrote the Introduction. Ah, those were the days. The 240Z in the forests and in the Welsh, and other areas, lanes with Mr. Videan. There were some strange things that went on with registration numbers/cars and all is not what it may appear. it was not...

    73 RAC Rally - 240Zs

TKS33SU4079 was re-registered LPE66P in 1975 after I was arrested by HM Customs & Excise when taking the car to Datsun in Belgium to exchange it for another car. It turned out that the car had been in the UK for longer than permitted and Datsun/Old Woking were fined and had to pay the duty to...

    73 RAC Rally - 240Zs

The 2nd picture is indeed Kevin Videan, but co-driven by Peter Rushforth as it's 1973. The 1st picture is TKS33SU4079 which Kevin and I used in 1974 and 1975 on the Welsh, RAC and many, many other events. In 1975 it was UK registered as LPE66P and, as far as I know, it still has that number.
