    Racing just for fun !

200SX makes an excellent track car IMO. Cheap to buy, cheap to run, plenty of bits available because of its popularity with the drift scene. Not sure how competitive it is - turbos/SCs tend to get bumped up a class or two. I know from when I looked at running a Mk1 MR2 Supercharger it picked up...

    240z's info please

Steve, this looked like a good car to me. I pulled out of buying it because it was too modded and too old for what I wanted to use it for (historic rallies and the 70s Roadsports) Its more of a track car than road car (interior a bit shabby) but I'm from the school of "it doesn't matter...

Although no actual race placings in that report. I once found an ETCC touring cars site that had a lot of historic results, can't remember if it included UK results... alan

    Fibreglass replacement panels

Cheers for the reply. Would I be right in thinking that some of the front spoiler kits will dispense with the valance panel anyway? And given that there isn't a massive amount of difference in price between fibreglass and steel and that painting will cost the same regardless I think steel...

    Fibreglass replacement panels

Well, I'm still looking for a Z :) What's the general view on replacement fibreglass panels. Will fitting them affect the value of the car significantly? Also is it possible to get a consistent paint finish between fibreglass and original metal panels? The car I'm currently looking at is...

    Racing rules

AE86 is great fun, but doesn't really deserve its reputation in standard form. Need to run it stiff at the rear and with skinny/hard rear tyres to turn it into an Inital D drift monster. Very tunable car, but going for silly money - several standard low milers sold for over £7k on eBay recently...

A 260Z is definitely on the list, although currently so is an AE86 (although obviously not in '70s Roadsports.... See, this is the problem when we come to the end of the season - lots of cars for sale and far too much choice :)

    Racing rules

Racer, Haven't done any racing (yet). Have spent the last three years doing a hell of a lot of trackdays on a very limited budget - lots of 3am starts, mechanical woes, lots of cable ties, gungum, gaffa tape and camping in fields. Highlight(?) probably being blowing the headgasket coming back...

    Racing rules

Racer, Wasn't having a dig about the quality or commitment of racing. Very much horses for courses. The only thing I don't like about trackdays is the lack of competition, but equally I know that a race weekend will cost more for less track time. Personally I'm hoping to do both, just looking...

    Racing rules

Depends on the rules but the type of suspension originally fitted must remain the same, as must the suspension mount points. Car will normally be caged so will be stiffer anyway, but strut braces are normally allowed. Strict rules about lowering, but you can run thicker ARBs if one was...

    Racing rules

In my experience trackdays offer more fun and better value than competition. The 750MC/HSCC stuff is a halfway house - very much amateur enthusiast competition and therefore retains the trackday social side of things. Unfortunately with competition how fast you are is always down more to money...
