So like an absolute idiot…I found my stupid mistake. I had independently verified TDC and the cam lobe position and the distributor rotor direction. But between each time had tried to start the engine. I took off the cam cover and the distributor at the same time and surprise surprise…it was...

Thanks for the tips. If the rotor was 180degrees out it wouldn’t point at cylinder 1 when at 10degrees btdc? Just trying to cancel everything out before I drain the oil (again)

Afternoon all. I took my car to a rolling road and they picked up that the mechanical advance was not working. At this point the car lacked power but ran fine, just quite rich. (Did a 60 mile round trip with no problems) When I got back I disassembled the distributor and found the cam lobes...

They are the watanabe center caps that came with the watanabe wheels. The colour is the 918 orange. Full nut and bolt rebuild and respray. Tuned the carbs a bit further last night. Smiling all the way to work this morning. Glorious.

I actually got my car on the road after 5 years of rebuilding. Just needs a setup and tune.

I have just put in a new mechanical fuel pump as the old thought the engine could survive on a tumble of fuel every couple of hours. Hopefully the new one has not gone. Going to pull the fuel filter tonight and see what it looks like.

Thanks rob. Will take a look at the fuel filter tonight. That would make a lot of sense. In other news I also have some coolant in the inside of the bonnet. Looks like it could be out the breather. No overheating while driving though. Temps all read fine. Again what could be the cause of this...

So replaced the diff with one from @Mr Tenno and now no noise. Success BUT now it doesn’t like to rev under load. Go over 2k revs and it struggles. Could this diff be a higher ratio? Is there a solution to this?
