Throttle Cable

Furthur to my post in the "Bit Of Fun" thread regarding a throttle cable here are a few pics of the cable set up I have on my Dellorto's, after a bit of trial and error the simple method proved to be the best :), I had a local company Tig weld 2 bits of alloy plate together, the adjusters came from Demon Tweeks, all the rest was "in Stock" ;) and for the pedal end I used the threaded ball joint from the original rod which passes through the bulkhead, drilled a couple of holes in it tapped them to accept some small allen screws and secured the inner cable by tightening the allen screws onto it

With a bit of modification it could be adapted to work with SU's or FI throttle bodies

Hi,Tim, I,ve alway,s left thing,s in the original production state, but from your pic,s & the tech discussion on the other thread, I,m becoming aware that you can make improvement,s on previous design,s. what are the pro,s & con,s on both Cable & rod-linkage throttle operation? & would,nt a pulley system (on rockercover)Be better?...................DJZ 60.
 
Well for me a cable is better because it is alot easier to fix if it breaks but on the other hand I suppose you would have to go a long way to break the original rod and ball joint system, I just think there is too much that could wear with the rod and ball joint system, a bit over complicated if you like, I prefer to see things kept simple unless its totally unavoidable

Looks good Tim. I like the idea of being able to easily remove any slackness in the throttle system, something that's obviously not too easy to do with rod and ball joints. I'll have to see what I need for my TB set up when it arrives. I'm not too sure where the linkage point is on that system yet.

Wouldn't mind seeing a pic of the pedal end of things if you don't mind breaking your back sometime? ;)

No problem Rob, wont have to break my back though, :) , just pop the cup off the ball on the end of the throttle pedal bar under the dash undo the 3 bolts holding the plate to the bulkhead and it's off, :) :) , nice and simple just how I like it

Hi, Tim, took carb,s to machine shop, The nice idiot there couldnt get four tube,s out & tapped the tube,s? anyway, I,ve put bolt,s in tapped tube,s and all I need to sort is choke attachment,of which I need bit,s from Pmac.............DJZ 60.
 
Tim,Today, I looked at carb,s (now't on tele') & decided to rectify what the" nice idiot" did yesterday. He had 50 grand,s worth of tooling (but no mould grip,s) & couldnt take small tube,s out! I managed to take them out today on the budget of 11p (price of cup of tea. I put bolt,s in the apeture,s & they were a little loose.Next I put PTF tape around them,& although that helped,To me it appear,s that it may need something else as well to fix them securely. Question: What do I use?..... Araldite,Glue or Concrete..........................DJ Einstein sed quickly.
 
You really need to find a better machine shop or someone who has access to BSP taps, a pipe fitting company maybe, and tap the holes the tubes came out of to accept BSP tapered blanking plugs, can you post up some pics of what you have done ? and we'll see what we can do, :)

Thank's Tim,& sorry about delay in reply.I think PMac's back & the latest on carb's is: That they are almost ready to go on.I can't get to Peter Mackintosh's till after this weekend,but that,ll give custom,s some time to clear him from quarantine.Then I,ll take peter to macdonald,s cause he,s bound to be hungry,,& once I,ve got bit,s off him Just a matter of putting the carb,s on just like BlackBug put his wheel,s on! You will not recognise those carb,s.I,ve Dave Jarmanised them! DJ"road & Race Z 60.

Hi, Andrew yes the Jag one's.Tim I think it's wise to get carb's on first.what if I burn the damn thing?then i will only have spare wheel left for the rolling road.Anyway,Andrew when we all getting together & anyone going to Swapmeet?I,m going on sunday.DJZ 60.
