Water pump gone.. car starts and dies straight away

As above, was on the motorway and heard a really weird clicking sound from beneath the dash, then my battery volt reader started going schizo, then I got smoke. Stopped on hard shoulder, managed to see the water pump break its waters. I've ordered a pump but wanted to check what bearing this would have had on the battery, and also when I start the car now it starts up but then dies straight away.

Need to check if it's seized solid, all happened last night in the dark so all I could see was water gushing out the bottom as I was filling up

As its a mechanical pump I am confused as to why your electics (you mention your battery) should have been so badly affected unless the pump seized stalled the belt and the alternator stopped delivering charge.

Clearly something else is going on as the car now fails to run

Could of 'popped' the Diode in the Alternator when the waters broke.

For safety's sake alone, have the Alternator tested by an Auto electrical place ( i.e off the car ) to see if that is the problem. Should cost nothing.

Lol at skiddell, there don't seem to be any wires or similar out of place, I've taken the alternator out and will get that checked tomorrow. Just thinking out loud, seems as though the engine is seized. I had a head gasket go once and the engine would start and die straight in a similar way. But I have no Mayo and there was no smoke from the back, can these 2 things take gasket out the question or is they still a chance..?

Put the electrics issue to one side (your getting the alternator checked)
Will the engine turn over ?
If so its back to Basics then, plugs out (check for oiling) compression test

fusible links are good. Thought I'd try starting it and it started first turn of the key :/ running VERY rough though, not done compression test but plugs are also ok. Trying to work out how the water pump would effect the rough running of the car

Appreciate that, I'm gonna change the pump and test the alternator then see how it goes. Pm me your number and I'll keep you updated
