I don’t know if there is nothing special about a 1971 item but as they are out of stock at Rock Auto, you may find the 280zx one is the same.

Or just search for a year closer to yours and check the photos to see if they look the same as your one.

They're not "special" starter motors - if you've got a local starter/alternator specialist, they should be able to sort it out for you.

Maybe have a look at MC Alternators & Auto Electricians, Warrington. They sorted a new high quality replacement (not reconditioned) with no issues since purchasing 5 years ago.

Can’t help but find a good, local guy I f you can. Fifteen years ago I took the wiper motor from my ‘65 Mustang round to a local chap and he tested it and sorted a few bits on it for about a tenner. A couple of years go I took the original starter motor from the Z round to him and he sorted that as well - “Good for another 100,000 miles” were his parting words. £20. He used to work on the railways years ago and must be 80 if he’s a day. Useful bloke to know.
