Squeak sound - air leak? (video)

As its a 260z probably won't have a spray bar and is internally oiled, if it was ok befoer it should be ok now, just remove the rocker cover! All lobes should be covered in a film of oil.
Just done the clearences mysellf 3 days ago and she flies now!:D:thumbs:

my 260z has a spay bar, and if Guy's is an N reg, his probably will too I think.
I thought internally oiled cams cam in in '76. Anyone?

I thought about that so looked in my 260Z Autobooks before posting and there was a spray-bar.

Aren't those Autobooks pics just awful?

DiY - if the car is going into a garage then perhaps best to get it looked at by them. However it does surprise me than people with little mechanical knowledge buy 40+ year old classic cars. You can use it as a learning exercise but you really need a tutor - I had my Dad to show me the basics.

Sorry didn'r realise it was an early one!
I did my clearences myself as its easy to do takes a while though!
Did it better than the garage who did them last. (2 years ago)
Tinkering with these simple old cars is part of the joy!!
It also teaches you about your car so will be more prepared if you get a breakdown etc.

Rob, I think there's plenty of people who buy these (and other classic cars) just for the driving and ownership experience, but have no interest (or capability) when it comes to the maintenance/technical side (with the rising prices this will become more so - owners who don't want to get dirty!). They just take it to a garage even for the simplest of jobs. Which is fine for them, if that's their bag.

Personally - I don't get that at all. Aside from me being a cheapskate who would rather do it myself than pay someone else (as long as its not easier using a lift!), for me, its intrinsic to the ownership experience to get fully involved with the mechanical side and all other aspects and learn to do as much as I can myself. I consider it a practical antidote to my day job of writing or editing stuff on a laptop all day.

Anyway, back on topic, Guy, just make sure you are confident that the garage you are taking it to know what they are doing and can read the signs. Unfortunately, too many garages these days are stumped if you can't plug a laptop into it. I know someone who's 240Z failed an MOT because the moron who tested it said it had a faulty brake sensor flashing up an ECU warning light (the switch under the hand brake was being a bit dicky and needed a clean)...

If you can get over to Northampton Guy, I could go through some things with you?

It shouldn't surprise you. They're awesome cars, and rare too - that's why I bought it. Investment and a pleasure to own, i'd prefer to have something tangible to play around with than leaving money in the bank.

Thanks Jon, i'd really appreciate that. The squeak sound dissappeared when I took it to the garage - they were too busy to properly look over it, i went on an off chance that they might be able to give some advice. The guy said it's being over-fuelled right now and that there are some air leaks. Typically the squeaking wasn't there to be heard so he couldn't say what it may be.

It needs an MOT so hopefully will get that sorted next week. Definitely running better without the squeaking... idles a little low still though
