Slicktop Respray Thread

Thought I would post the pictures and log up from when I had my car repsrayed, basically we did it over Thursday, Good Friday and the Saturday.

A few days before i started a bit of prep work, however the pictures are not good!
So I've removed both door cards, sill trim, rear/bottom boot trim, upper boot trim and the spoiler today. As well as head light seals, and taken bolts out of the bumper and wing to try and speed us up next thursday night when it goes into the workshop.
Plan is thursday night when im back from work to take my now dismantled car to the bodyshop place where a mate and I will work late to get it prepped and repaired thursday night. There is some repair work to do on a sill and door, small dents to get rid off and also some repair work on the drivers wing, another small parking ding! We'll mask the car of Friday morning then it'll be sprayed and baked in the afternoon and then in theory polished and rebuilt friday night/ saturday morning if we run over!

Made some more progress tonight!

So i got home from work around 5:00 to take the car to the workshop and it looked like this:

Despoilered and fog ducts visable. Also the damage to the wing can be seen (+ the temoporary repair!)

By 6:45 we were to here.

Bumper and wing off, working on handles and mirrors

By 8:00 we were here:

Areas for repair sanded back ready for filler.

By 11:00 we were here:

Car buzzed down, areas filled and sanded ready for primer. Notice as well that I'd done some work on my rusty intercooler pipes, I think im going to paint them black to stop the surface corrision - cheap pipes I think!

By 11:30:

I didnt take any more images but as we left at 12:15 the car bumper and new wing were in primer ready to be sanded back, and masked up to be painted tomorrow. So all being well it'll be painted and built up by tomorrow evening
And that is how we respray a car in record time

This is from the 2nd April

I've just got back from the bodyshop now and had a shower. Yet to have any dinner so starving but here we are, today has gone well but quite as well as we had hoped. Perhaps a little ambitious to drive it away tonight but its not far off. The car still needs the spoiler, mirrors and nose panel reattaching and its going be buffed all over tomorrow to the finish as perfect as its going to be. Its already looking good and a very nice colour. Its back to its original Nissan colour, not the Silver that it was in before (It appears its not the same shade but i much prefer the new colour)

Anyway, what everyone wants is the pcitures so here we are

On arrival this morning this is how the car had been left overnight

It was then primed and rubbed down, degreased and masked up and here we are at 1:00 and 2:00, some small parts painted on the masked areas of glass

Again from the 2nd.

5:00 the car was painted, 3 coats of colour and two coats of Laquer then baked and after all the soft edging, masking etc was removed here we are.

7:20 Build up well underway, new wing on handles in ariel cover in etc. Notice black painted intercooler pipes. I'll see how this holds up, might have to do it properly but for now they'll do.

On Leaving at 9:00 Front bumper back on indicators back in and some other bits and bats sorted out, head light seals etc.

And from the 3rd. I havnt actually managed to wash the car yet, been too busy. I ment to today but time has run away with me. Although I have fitted new wiper blades, joy, and My new 8 pot front brakes have been fitted.

Some new cheeky pictures. Will do some proper ones tomorrow after its been washed and waxed and the remaining tape has been taken off.

Lol of course not, it came from the bodyshop place that we did the work in, I dont think many decorating places have painting and baking booths hehe. Real professional job, I did ask and this would have been a £2k+ respray, luckily ive got some good mates and they owed me favors, and I worked with them over the time so it cost me ALOT less than that. So pleased with the finish, although there are some points that need rebuffing as the paint has now settled down.

Cheers mate, they dont owe me many more now LOL Doing other cars Is something thats been talked about and if your deadly serious about wanting it painting then I can certainly ask for you.

It may be next year now tho, as what little budget I did have for it, I just blew on a Z32TT, welll worth it tho.
