Ones Z31 has a leaky rear quarter window, whats the easiest way to get it out without shattering the glass, need to preserve the rubber, Mike can no longer get hold of a new one so gonna have to seal with window sealant.

Any advice appreciated before i tackle this job

Cheers

Get the rubber as hot as possible so its as flexible as possible, the wifes hair dryer is a good way to start...

can we keep the responses serious please, as I will shortly need to remove a rear 1/4 to attend to some rust issues.

thanks.

Sounds like a good tip, will use that. But was thinking more along the lines of the mechanics of removing it. Is it going to be a case of nicking a load of my mums best knives to lever the rubber? does the trim have to come off, how? cheers

Yeah i'm good Quagmire, been i while since i was last round yours, your z still going strong?Right this is how my quarter light unfolded, looks like previously had been put through, it would have come out exactly as the instruction said in the link Quagmire listed, except someone has used bonded windscreen sealant to secure the new one, hence now the purchase of windscreen wire to break the seal. looking around can no longer get hold of butyl rope to reseal, but may have found a replacement. Anyone see any reason why this could't be used with a large enough bead? It's butyl rubber in a tube!!!http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/n...efview=search&ts=1210670985625&isSearch=false

bit thin 2.5mm not thick enough, could double it up, but not cost effective i think. i'll post back to let you know how the rubber in a tube went!!!

You should be able to get hold of some thicker butyl sealant from a local auto glazing outfit, think the size i used was about 12mm square which i doubled up and eased back in with the help of a hairdrier.
