Rear brake self adjusters

‘72 240Z. Rear brakes over adjust by themselves within 100 miles and bind eventually I don’t need to brake and the drums are red hot!!
Any advice please. I keep de adjusting then going again!

Is it affecting both sides?
Are you backing them off through the hole or removing the drum?

Could it be that you mixed up the adjustor wheels from the left to the right side? So the lever never slips during self adjustment (handbrake action)?

If the brakes release when the wheel is turned in the direction shown below, the adjusting wheels are fitted correctly (both sides should should be rotated downwards to release).



If they are fitted correctly, it might be worth checking that the slave pistons are retracting.
