Oil Grades

Hi All, Could I please ask some advice on oil grades. I have just had the oil changed on my 2000 year Honda dog carrier! and the garage supplied Morris (who?) 0W-20 oil. In the past, and according to the handbook I've always used 10W-40 (Shell Helix) Is the 0W-20 too thin for an older engine (with 92k miles) or does any grade suit? I would much appreciate any sage advise before I bother to replace it. Cheers, Dave.

I would recomend use what grade the book recomends. The 0w-20 oil might be a better and more expencive oil but the wrong grade.
Go for correct grade and best quality in that grade. Quality is refrenced by letters like SG for petrol CG for diesel. The further up the alphabet the better the quality.

Well I didn't realise 0-20 oil was available. I just googled it and got a page from a Honda specialist showing Mobil.

I'd be tempted to leave it but keep an eye on oil consumption. That oil is good for fuel economy according to the web page.

Change it in the Spring perhaps?

Hi Rob, that sounds like a good approach regarding viscosity but my other concern was a mention on the internet that these new syn/partially syn. oils can dislodge sludge, causing blockages in smaller oil ways, and thinking long term I'd rather not risk that!
