my 280zx

On 19 August 2013 I visited Mike Feeney who had been advertising a 280zx on behalf of its owner. Apparently the car had been purchased new in Saudi Arabia in 1980 and brought back to the Uk by its owner as part of an event called Eurodrive 80 which is reported in the Summer 91 edition of the Z Club Magazine. After this event the vehicle had been stored in a Liverpool garage and left until May 2012 when it was delivered to Mike with instructions to get it running and sell it. The car ran very well, was virtually rust free, taxed and MoT'd we negotiated a price and I drove it home.

Whilst in storage it had been well bashed about, all panels suffering dents, scratches and creases. I ran it until the tax expired in Sept and then left it with a local body specialist who agreed to repair and respray it over the winter, fitting it in when time permitted. The vehicle was finished in March having had 96 dents removed! It is now back on the road looking really smart.

Wow, they counted the dents? That's impressive attention to detail. Seriously, it's looking stunning and lucky you to get one virtually rust free. Very happy for you :)

Thanks for the kind comments Guyz and Galz they are very much appreciated and I will pass them on to Body & Tuning who worked so hard on the car. I've got a load of stills to post up but after my initial cock up posting the video they might have to wait a while.

I have to say I never expected it to look so good but I'm more than chuffed with the result.

Yep saw the car when it was at Mikes and could see it was a keeper. Well worth the cost of a paint job.
A good buy just as 280 prices are now starting to fly up!

Derek.

What a lovely job they have done. Great looking car, black really suits a 280 I think.

You must be well pleased.

Fabulous job - you've really done it justice. Knowing how good the structure is I would rate it amongst the top 280ZXs worldwide...

As a paint job the result is to be congratulated and it looks fabulous. I do wish that these 280zx's were a little more appreciated. I remember buying a 260z and later hankering (after owning a 240z which rotted!) over a showroom 280zx Targa in 1978. At the time I was was drawn. I jumped in and it felt fabulous even without driving!, Sadly I couldn't afford and so went for a pre-registered 260z. By technical and historical comparison (usually and historically by those who really haven't a sensible clue of the development of the marque) they are cumbersome in appearance and a little angular but really should properly be regarded in the development of the line.

Well there seems to be a strong line of 280ZX restorations coming back on the road this and next year. Of course we have Derrick with his candy red turning heads at shows all through last year winning some well deserved trophys, Huws is nearly ready, mine WILL be done, another mint example just popped up in Doncaster, Arkwright just pulled this one out of the bag....... so I think the 280ZX popularity and exposure is well in hand.
