I've ran bike carbs before on a mk 1 golf gti i built a few years ago, had to make a manifold and work out the length,flow and also jet them properly to suit the head and cam mod's i had done ,
It ran well and was pretty dam quick
sounded good to,
I think they where a cheaper alternative to webers or dellorto's because you could pick them up pretty cheap but prices seem to have gone up a bit now, but on the other hand there are a few company's making manifolds (bogg brothers is one) now,
but if you have to spend lots of money getting bespoke manifolds made etc you would be better off going with webers ,dellortos or mikuni's to be honest because there is a lot more engines out there running these carbs which means more info to help you
