It's the turn of our very own Hugh Myers to give an interview in MN this week. And a very interesting interview it is too.

Who knew he was part of the '84 Olympic Team in Los Angeles?

Hugh will your new car be a Laurel?

Any replacement car is a long time away at the moment! We have to get the stage rallying out of our system first!

However, I cannot think of a suitable Datsun that two old crocks could comfortably use for historic road rallying just now! Our 240Z is not something that you would want to drive far on the road, or clamber in and out of over the age of 60!

'84 IS a long time ago!

Hugh

I was part of the coaching team of 3 and also acted as "team sailmaker".
My speciality was the Flying Dutchman Class (fabulous 2 man racing dinghy but no longer an Olympic Class).
I had been crew to a guy called Jo Richards in the run-up to the 1980 Olympics (the sailing team did not go due to the Russian invasion of Afghanistan!) but went down with Meningitis at a regatta in France that Spring.
In Los Angeles Jo got a Bronze Medal with his new crew Pete Allam. We had unusually light winds for the Long Beach area, otherwise they could even have done better.
It was an interesting experience. The pressures of the Olympics are unbelievable, even for people used to competing regularly in international events.

PS Dave....weren't you going to quote me for making up some stickers? Hugh
