Door Mirrors

I am trying to replace the standard mirror on mine, by which I mean the huge rectangle of chrome that seems to have been fitted to every car in that period from Datsuns to British Leyland products. I have seen what appears to be the standard fitment to the 240's in the States, but I understand they can only be used on LHD, and are handed. Has anyone found something similar for us civilised RHD peoples?
I don't wont to do the "bullit" style, but if I cant find something like the American ones I would consider a 911 rs (70's) replica one, but was just wondering if anyone else has an answer?

They look good - do you know how many fixings there are and at what centres? I have two at the moment at (IIRC) 37mm centres, and was "hoping" not to have to endanger the public by picking up a drill..........
 
Like many cars of the period I don't recall UK spec 240z's and early 260z's being fitted with door mirrors as standard. Just looking through one or two of the journalist reviews of the early 70's none are present on the photo's. My first 260z bought in 74 certainly didn't have them and (like many other folk at the time) I went along to Halfords and got a pair of chrome mirrors pretty soon after having a few near misses! Chrome was very much in favour at the time and for me probably still looks better than anything else (either rectangular or round) if there are still chrome bumpers and other brightwork on the car. Have found that bullits can be problematic if you want to actually see anything behind (particularly on the nearside) but do look cosmetically good.
 
This is the one I am thinking of changing......if it works! Poor picture I know but it is the only one I could find......

I can second that about the bullet mirrors. A friend of mine put them on his MGB and they are *****.
 
I rather like the standard BL rectangular mirrors - I prefer them to the JDM wing mirrors or those round ones.

does any one know of any good fender mirror suppliers in the UK. I want to go for the JDM look.
 
Franky - those look like the MrF ones don't they?
Jon Bill - those are not the BL ones - the stalks are much "daintier" and the chrome pressing is different . Much better ! Where are they from?

I think I know which ones you mean ,the black ones with holes in ,they are on back order and they said they should have some available around march time and update the website when they come in
