chassis number help

A member has contacted me and I don't have the knowledge to help - can anyone here give me some info?

240Z
states on MOT car first used 1971
Log book states 1973
chassis HS30-103087

I know this subject has been covered before and the chassis number would indicate 1973 but the MOT bit seems a bit strange.

Can anyone shed any light on this

It could be as simple as the MOT tester just didnt know what the correct year of the car was? I mean they normally go by the registration number and it has been known that they get it wrong. I would deffinately suggest that the owner takes the car (if poss) to the garage and have them straighten the problem out.
Yoiu can also now a days go to a local DVLA office and explain the problem to them and they will issue a new MOT cert.
