Crazy prices. I might sell mine and fit the suburu power steering [emoji2369]

The dash is still cheap at £175 though.

Has anyone tried fitting/modifying readily available existing non power assisted RHD racks to work on a s30 subframe? just a thought to see if it can be done for a fraction of the price of getting a batch designed, manufactured, tested and certified.

Like a rack from a ford escort? https://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=900_1332&products_id=10620

I'd looked at these guys. Previously.

Although I'm sure there will be a manual rack that would fit the s30. Just takes a lot of research and trial and error to get all the measurements right.

As you would expect drawing fee for the CAD and no estimation on pricing due to each rack being fully bespoke but they do look smart. I'm sure Quaife do a similar service.

Agreed, just wondering if anyone had come across anything over the years or if a specialist rack was the only option

the geometry is wrong on the escort racks, also mounts etc.

Honestly not looked into it just asking if that was a route to look into at all

I remember seeing this rack/subframe setup that required a new mounting locations on the S30 subframe, the could be one solution for people.

Sorry for going off course franky

Single rack is £650+vat + £150 design fee +vat, £960 ish

I do remember seeing photos of an escort rack on 240z somewhere , only the rack mounts were modified a bit , got to be a better option , and you can get them in lots of ratio's

It'd need some work though as the geometry is all off on them. I've asked for a detailed drawing so I can work it out.

Sensible thing would be to modify the actual rack mounts not the cross-member.

£400 - ridiculous. Then again, eBay is full of parts being listed at daft amounts. For example those US side trim strips that are on there (used) for over 400 quid!! The consequence of the Z’s rising popularity and a flood of chancers who know nothing about value.

Parts will continue to circulate off eBay between individuals and club members for more sensible amounts...

That's what I'm doing with mine. I looked at the electric power steering option but the price of it plus the thought of fitting that to use with a potentially worn rack that would cost me further megabucks to put right put me off. I think my Subaru P/S build will probably come in at around the £600 mark all in. Just need to put it all back in the car to find out if it works. I'm keeping the original rack and crossmember in case the next owner wants it back to original when and if I sell the car.

Quick Rack from a Classic STI, Rack £280 + 2 days to do the mod's

Happy I purchased the £55 RHD rack from Japan now, it's gone to my mechanic future build

So in breaking news. I've found an engineering company who will refinish the rack internals and make new bronze bushings to suit(i'd bet 90% are worn out or out of spec). While its there i'm going to pay for them to look to see what they can do around new parts and possibly a slightly faster version, for those of us with lazy US spec ratio's.

Worse case. Just a fully rebuilt rack, which I don't think you can get done anywhere ATM.

Would you mind sharing the company and your quote via pm please?
