Ad - surely if you use fibre-glass panels, you're limiting your engine size to 2500cc ? Are you looking to get it into the pre-1970 (ie car manufactured in 1969) classes to keep it competitive ?

Sean , i think they did not have a bigger engine then 2,4 before 1972 but i am not sure about that ,
But what counts is the homologation date of the car and the class you want to gone run ,
The homologation date of the 240Z is i believe 4/70 , the class you want to run is your choice you can run a 1969 Z in Gr H what goes to 1977 and use the extensions from the homologation till that date , or you can run in GR G what goes till 31/12/1971 and use the extensions til that date.
But building date does not say much , apart from that you can not use a 280z shell and build a pre 72 race car ,
But i think iff you build carefully you can build a Gr G ( pre72) car on 930 Kg , and thats the weight on the homologation ,

So am I correct in my interpretation that in class/groupG you can only run the 2400 engine with normal overbore and that class/group H will allow you to run the 2800 engine???

with normal 1mm overbore ;) !

Simple rule seems to be :

GrpIV pre '72 = fibre-glass panels and 2400cc.
GrpIV post '72 = steel panels and 2800cc.

Unless you're aiming to compete in the pre' 1970 classes (against several dinosaurs with therefore a chassis and suspension advantage), it'd be better to have more power in the post '72 regs. and trim down the panels' reinforcing to lose weight ! Or should I just 'zip it' ?

Sure , Gr H you also can run a G nose , rear discs wide arches ectr , but you competing against big BMW CSL and Porsche RSR and other big stuff whats was running in period .

I have taken full advantage of the "overbore" facility:bow:

I think your assessment is a fair one on the classes. A point made to me today was that group G might be an easier class to compete in with a 240Z. however from my point of view with what Im proposing to build a 2800 engine. steel panels will be more appropriate and be eligible for group H. For non FIA events/ track days etc the 2800 version should be slightly quicker.
Interesting to note for 2010 that Appendix K will permit strenghtening panels provided they follow the chassis/shell contours. So no gussets allowed.

Sean , Gr G is running from 1/1/66 till 31/12/71

Yeah, but they're so bloody common - how many Z GrpIV racers do you know of in Europe currently ?

Oh yummy, I'm gonna be a euro-circuit groupie - I'll polish my caravan up now for the treks around some great circuits ! I'm sure the family'll love it............. !

THIS is what I mean about Zs being appreciated for their true value !
