I think the time has finally come after 12 years to part ways with "KGB" my 1989 z31 2+2 manual NA with grey leather interior.

Mot is due and it's time for welding to be addressed again and some new brakes. Looking at the miles I've put on it over the last few years I don't think I can justify the cost. It's a shame she's still purrs like a kitten every time I want to blow the cobwebs off and has had thousands spent over the years but sciatica has made driving days less and less recently and other non-car projects could do with any spare funds.

Now the decision:
- sell whole as is as spares/repairs
- strip off some easy parts that may be useful for others and scrap the rest
- bite the bullet do the repairs and drive it again til it sells with an mot on it

Any advice welcome!

looking at the pics and as a z31 owner,i would say stripping off the easy parts and scrapping the rest is not a option as it looks too good a car and being manual too i would say dont do it,also there are hardly any z31s left on the roads and few owners ...so selling the parts could take some time, they always rust in those areas shown, the only options to me would be to get it done as its always easier to sell with an mot or if you really cant afford/dont want to do it, sell as is to somebody prepared to do the work......

I think the smell and sound is probably what I'll miss most. The mix of quality 80s leather and petrol as the v6 purrs down the road. The one an only non standard thing on it was a huge k&n cone filter.

I’m with mrM above. I would think scrapping for parts would be the least viable option due to the small number of cars left out there. Plus you car looks too good for that fate.

If it was my car I would look to repair it, as a car with an MOT will fetch more if you decide to part company with it. But that really depends on your situation.

Best of luck with which ever direction you choose. It is a sad situation when faced with these choices.

It appears too good & too rare to scrap. If it were me, I would put it through an MOT as it is and find out what needs doing and the cost then make up my mind whether to repair or sell as is.

Hi Looking at those photo's mine had the same problem in the wheel well. Luckily, mine was completely waxoiled and heavily undersealed, but whoever did it, managed to miss the wheelwell.
I am in agreement with the other lads, its to good to scrap as there are only 25 legally on the road, and probably even less with it being manual. Where abouts in the world are you. I may be able to assist. Cheers Steve.

I’d be gutted if I owned it and had to make this choice, externally it looks great. Tackling rot like that is a serious undertaking, I’ve been through a few similar projects, if u can’t do it yourself the costs will outweigh the gains unless you can justify the sentimental value to yourself.
Real tough choice, I reckon buy a welder and learn new skills. You’ll have a blast learning, it’s addictive!

Cheers guys, if I had a garage I would consider having a go myself but I only have a tiny lock up with no room to work.
I did list it on Ebay in haste and someone bought it then made no payment or contact so I decided to tuck it away in lock up for the time being and took the z31 out of hibernation for a full inspection. It's at mechanics now getting bonded side skirts removed to have a good look for rot before doing any more work on it for mot.
I wish I could see these as just cars/machines and wasnt so attached!
I'm up in Scotland not seen another z31 in the flesh up here besides 1 in a scrap yard I raided for parts a while back.

I would do wot Farmer said then see if it’s worth doing as in the real world they ain’t really worth much,I had the turbo version which was great to drive around as a daily but I decided to sell while I could get good money for it at the time that car to is now in metal heaven
