Z Less

Hi forum,
Well I've finally made the decission to take the ZX off the road at the end of the month. It's going in for a proper rebuild, stripped back to bare metal, repaired where necessary etc. The interior is even going away to get rid of any sun bleaching. With a bit of luck, when we get it back around Christmas it'll look like a new car.

Oh and before anyone says I am mad spending that sort of money on a 280ZX, I feel that is is really worth preserving.

I'll try and keep you informed of the progress.

Totally worth it Andy. ZX are becoming rare beasts. Look forward to reading about progress. Who are you thinking of using to do the paint by the way?:thumbs:

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the support. I have found a guy who restores classics and he is willing to take mine on. He is doing all of the body work inc. paint but outsources the glass work, interior work and engine work to other specialists that he rents units to. Nice find just south of Cranleigh (and first spotted by SurreySeagull, thanks Darren).

He is Ferrai trained and also worked for a Porche specialist. I've seen some of his work in pics and in the flesh and it is great.

BTW this means the one I am breaking will go too so if anyone needs anything they need to shout in a hurry (but I'm keeping some of the rarer bits).

Hi Russell,
We are based near Dorking and it is not 355 but they look great too. I am looking at a little quiet firm called D.J.M Automotive that seems to do things well

You are very close to me, I am about 7 miles or so from there.

Looking for someone to repair the doors and roof on my 260z 2+2 at the moment. Used to work a few units up from 355s. Their work is amazing but very pricey

Hi,
Every job is initially an estimate and it all depends on what is found. The place I have chosen seems to take on only one car at a time plus maybe one more. I have made a personal decision as to what I want to spend so I'm keeping the commercials quiet at the moment if that is ok?

But I will keep all informed of progress and final overall cost.

Andy, good luck with the build, totally worth it.

Our 280ZX is also in the body shop for a full restoration, it's been there for some time now.
