Z Farm Reviews/Advice on full restorations? 260Z Coupe

Hi There from Rod in Oz,

Firstly I am a new member so here's a little background on myself. I live in Western Australia and used to own a 1977 260Z 2 plus 2 red manual which I bought way back in 1981 (new car smell still) and kept for approximately 5 years and loved the car but sold it (sadly, looking back) ...time has moved on and now 30 years later I bought a '77 red coupe manual late last year. This is an original 2 lady owner car (last lady owner had it for 26 years) with virtually no rust at all...but mechanically she is very tired as she was used as a daily driver by both owners (although always garaged).

I am looking at the possibility of shipping the zed over to the 'Z Farm' for a full rebuild/restore to ensure the car can be passed on and live for another 30 years hopefully! Just wondering if anybody has any advice/experience with 240/260 work done there? It's very hard to find anybody over here that can and are willing to do a full quality rebuild and I doubt they have anywhere near the knowledge base and experience that the Z Farm team have...

Any help or advice would be much appreciated as it is a big commitment logistically and financially to send her over to the UK.

Cheers and thanks,

Rod (Perth, WA).

Hi Reddog, I wouldn't have thought it was feasible to ship your car over here and back. Surely only a car of special historic value e.g. and ex works rally car would be worth that sort of expenditure and effort.

Also if the body is ok then a mechanical overhaul and respray should be easy enough in Oz. We have a member who has just moved to Oz - he might get it touch.

Also the Z Farm owner is a member on here so I would think he will be in touch too.

Hi Rod
Having lived in Australia for many years there are many garages that will be able to do the work. As the S30 series was pretty popular in its day.
Don't know many engineering companies in Perth but when I lived in Melbourne I know that Ian Tate (ex HDT) had an engineering shop which did work on L series motors, I also know of some excellent body shops there as well.
I also think there is a pretty active zclub in Australia, I am sure they will be able to help you.
Cheers
Andrew

+ 1 for SW...they are the premier datsun Z rally preparation outfit and also cater for non competition builds

Have you tried Datsport? Again Baz has 30+ years working with Datsuns and I have seen some of their cars...awesome

Another option- join Ozdat and Datnet forums. They cater for all datsuns and some of the restorations on there are A1., so you can get opinions from local owners..

Heaps of places in Oz that could do the job I say;)

These cars are not rocket science to work on. They are only steel/tin and paint.

A good panel and paint shop is all you need, and the mechanicals are simple.

Parts can be sourced from many places worldwide.

A very expensive option to ship to UK.

NZ is far closer and we have some good shops here.:)
