i think it would be nice to see, it would certainly be of help to buyers/sellers if i'd had a section within it telling them what pushes prices up/down!

Yeh, but thats not wot Sean is proposing. Just a price list. so my original comments stand.
Wot U R talkin about is different. thats a buyers guide. We alrady got that. Just stick a few prices on it et voila ... you have it.

So does this mean my 280zx 2+2 is only fit for spares or should I perservere and keep it on the road? 125,000 miles currently!

Prposed value scheme is not for us enthusiasts mate - it's for the masses who might want to buy one :)
You're either hooked or not !
If I said it's worth 12,000 - you'd sell it; if I said it's worth 120, you'd scrap it ! What's it worth to you :) ?

Sounds like your knockin your head against a brick wall Sean. I had to laugh reading through these posts when I came to pmacs post.
Everyone sweetness and light about the idea, Sean wanting Suzy's babies, (watch him Chris), then PMAC, "what a totally useless idea"

I nearly fell off my chair.

my views for what its worth is I think that how can z owners put a honest values on what a z is worth it is going to be so biased it is untrue
surly a car is worth what ever it sells for

also how can some one who is selling zs be seen by others to be giving a correct valuation
a far better use of time would be for some one to do the specifications of each model that a lot of people wanted to be included in this website

"also how can some one who is selling zs be seen by others to be giving a correct valuation"

Unfair Steve - I've disappointed in you !

"a far better use of time would be for some one to do the specifications of each model that a lot of people wanted to be included in this website" - I can't do that so can't help there !

I feel that we've moaned for years that the Classic car press put stupid values on our cars, we are the only ones qualified to construct a comprehensive values guide and we can't even agree upon whether to do it and if so, who should do it - pathetic !
Reminds me of the 2nd ark landing upon Earth and their debate over what colour their money should be whilst looking for telephones to sanitise :)

I'm still willing to set up the basis for a values chart for each model with points that would reduce or increase a cars' value (eg reasonable body, good interior, clean mechanics - 3000 pounds V great body, resaonable interior, working mechanics - 3800/4200 pounds) !

However, if the majority of the committee feel it is not needed / required, I shan't waste my time as Mr Burns suggests !
Vote on it and let me know !

Well, you cant keep a good man down, Sean is willing to put time and effort into a project for the benefit of others, that has to be supported dont it?

I think its all tall order Sean, but if you have the determination mate, you MUST ignore any critics, and as Suzu says Go for it.
I have to admit, that the classic car press apart from having a varied array of prices for different models, and different interpretations on conditions and concours etc, have some wildly annoying price differences.
Of course a car, a bike, an ice cream come to that, is only worth what someone will pay for it, thats a ridiculous basis to gain an assumption, there has to be a basic format of averages when it comes to values. If this only serves the members and owners to give them that bible of basics, upon which to begin.

It would of course also serve would be newcomers, and give them an idea of thevtrue amount, they should expect to pay for a Z, come on we are supposed to be the professionals arent we, we own these motors, who better to give realism in pricing. Also how mant times have we seen posts from would be owners, "asking how much should i pay" and "Ive seen a car on ebay, is it "worth".

Yes Sean, I think you have the basis of a bloody good idea pal.

I also said I think its a tall order, and besides, if I wish to change my mind and decide to support another member of OUR club, (not your club Albrecht, lets be clear about that) then I have every right to do so,
Albrecht, why the heck dont you get off my case, grow up, and find yourself another passtime, and someone else to annoy, you really are very childish.

This is true. Makes a change to find a bit of truth and accuracy in a Zbirdy post ( childish comment there, sorry ).

It aint all that difficult, we never had so much model choice and the imported models could be dealt with on a seperate list !

Against the 240s and 260s, could be listed imported cars (predominately lhd) !

240Z (tax exempt)
240Z
260Z (2 seater)
260Z 2+2
280ZX 2 seater
280ZX 2+2
300ZX (pre face-lift) turbo
300ZX (pre face-lift) non - turbo
300ZX (face lift) turbo
300ZX (face lift) non - turbo
300ZX Z32

Imports

240Z
260Z
280Z 2
280Z 2+2
280ZX Turbo (import)
300ZX 2 seater (pre facelift import) turbo and non - turbo
300ZX Z32 (2 seater) turbo
300ZX Z32 (2 seater) non - turbo
300ZX Z32 2+2 turbo
300ZX Z32 2+2 non - turbo

I'm sure that I've forgotten some and you :) will correct me but you get the gist !

Next, condition categories (with explanations at the bottom of the page, guided by an asterix) that determine how a car should be classed) :

concours (enjoy it)
excellent (turn the key and go - underneath is clean)
very good (some finishing required - underneath is clean)

Note : All cars above this point are mechanically correct and clean underneath !
good (finishing required, panels/paintwork, perhaps some mechanical work too but car is driveable)

average (major work necessary including some or all of the following : chassis repairs/re-trim/re-paint/mechanical rebuild
below average (total rebuild if chassis no./rarity warrants or break for parts)
salvage (for parts only)

There will be some exceptions - it should be stated that more emphasis is placed on correct bodywork (especially underneath) than on a clean interior/new paintwork/overhauled engine !

Of course, it should be said that all prices are speculative until the car is officially valued by the club for only 30 (35 ?) quid (insurance officers' contact details supplied), cheap at the price with club membership thrown in :)

Car would be given a time elapsed ref. number that could be quoted in ads/articles etc to avoid Joe Dough looking on our site and claiming XXX value - as confirmed by The Z Club when nobody has ever seen the car !

Let's face it, if The Z Club can't sort something out, and even if it is a general guide to most models, no-one else can ! We should be seen to be THE definitive place of knowledge in the UK on these cars - a price reference should be part of that !

So, what do you think ?
Dont forget the 2 seater Cabrio (import) too!!!:p
