Window trim

Does the front and rear flimsy window trims actually serve a purpose like helping the window fit? I can't see how as they look so weak.
It is just as I would prefer to leave them out. Any thoughts?

They're purely aesthetic I'm sure.

Some of the tech boffins may believe it helps streamline the car and save you some petrol money, but I'm not sure it's significant enough to matter.

The windscreen does look a bit "odd" without them though
