White auto 240z with racing history ebay

I'm just doing some Z procrastinating while I should be working.. but I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this auto 240z?: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133727916305

It's either an original French car, or a US import into France. But it has some FIA stuff with it and an old photo which shows its had this white & black paint job for a while at least. You wouldn't naturally think of an auto as a racer, but there you go. The black painted engine bay is off-putting though. Maybe it is a US import from a while ago?

This is the second ad I've seen for it too - first one used different photos, and had no mention of the racing history. I presume the old ad used photos from when it was in France - as the car appears on this shonky looking Youtube channel:
- and you can see the old ebay ad on her laptop.

There's also this appalling video of it driving -
.

In the comments they say those are just clips of a proper "episode" on the car, but I can't find it anywhere online. God knows how cringeworthy it would be!

*EDIT* - found it:

The expert in his tracky bottoms said the black bonnet was an option for the French market? He also said it had paint 10 years ago though. And apparently the car was owned by a French film company. Interesting.

But just wondering if the car is known to anyone here? Maybe @SeanDezart as its a French car?

If the body is solid and the car could be bought for a little less, it wouldn't be bad value as a bad candidate for a manual swap.

Apologies, I meant to post this in Classifieds Discussion. Would someone be able to move it for me? Sorry.

That white car has been for sale on ebay for a very long time - years?

It had a different running advert for that period .

1970 - K reg - with side vents .......

It always seemed to have a combination of 'undesirable ' components ( to me anyway ) - auto / interor /engine bay/ wheels ... which may explain why it didnt sell at the asking prce .

The 'motorsport heritage ' was never mentioned in that time that i saw

This car is very local to me. They are a classic/interesting car dealer. I sold them a couple of 911's a few years back and had a good look at this and a yellow zed they had at the time. It was IMO overpriced then but maybe not now.

Yeah I saw it when I first started looking around 18 months ago. It is strange that the seller has obviously never relented on the price and has just kept paying for the ads.

What are the side vents?

Yes I think you're right about the undesirable elements. Although can all be changed obviously.

OK, interesting. If this is an original french car, would it have the firmer euro spec suspension by the way?

And yeah, this could be the first ever example of a car growing into its price tag. I feel like 20k for a euro left hooker isn't too shoddy if the bodywork is rot free. And if £2k is approx what it would take to convert to a manual, then all in for 22k ish isn't bad.

Do you remember if it looked rust free? Any memories of the underside?

Looking at the paperwork - it says it’s a 72 anyway .

Definitely been advertised as a 70 for all that time - but can maybe the can , can remain closed maybe .

I‘ve been ignoring this car for ages as it’s been on eBay for so long, but it’s funny that just a few days ago I also thought to myself that this is probably becoming decent value, especially against so many strongly priced cars on there at the moment.

Well considering the spec compared to what some of these muppets are asking I’d take 45 k for it right now which makes it a real bargain

That white Z was the weaker of the two they had for sale, compared to the lime green one.

As Sean noted in previous discussions, the dealer got it for something like 10-11k and then instantly listed it at double the price.

Its a US import, not a French/Euro car. See the rear side marker lights - Euro car wouldn't have them. Or the wraparound US/JDM-type front indicators.

That's the kind of info I'm looking for! Thanks Rich. So yeah, still overpriced then!

TBH if it was a year or two ago they got it for 10/11k (then plus fees? Would make it nearer 13?), perhaps they've also spent a little on it after the auction... inflation and rising prices. They also have to make a profit as they're a business then I would expect over 20k from the sale.

They really should sort the description of the car though and post better pictures, doing themselves no favours.
