Right.. 1990 300zx TT/T, fuse in dash is fine, relay and fuse in engine bay are both fine.. tapping the steering wheel provides a "click" from in the engine bay (presumably the relay) but alas, no sound from the horn.

Service manual appears to avoid the subject of the horn beyond electrical, can anybody at least tell me where I can find them or suggest something that may help?

Thanks

There are two horns, high and low tone, located in the nose cone cavity below the air filter assembly (attached to the front crossmember if I remember correctly).

Horns of this type often seize up from lack of use - the fact that you have the relay clicking means that the majority of the circuit is fine. Once you have located the horns, remove and clean the connectors at the horns (they are in a corrosion intensive area). If you have a multimeter, check that you have a voltage at the end of the cable to the horn connector when the horn push is pressed in the car.

I hate to suggest it, but a sticky horn diaphragm can be freed by squirting it with WD40 and repeating the horn push procedure with it reconnected. If you get to this level, it is probably worth investing in a pair of new horn units.

The horn on my Z32 packed up the day b4 the mot was due.I took it to an auto electrician, as I wanted a rear fog light rigging up as well.
It turned out that the wires were in a real mess down behind the front spoiler.I had to have some new wiring and connectors. The previous owner had apparently fitted air horns and then tried to rewire the originals himself b4 sale, using insulation tape.
It's unfortunately not the easiest place to access, unless you've got a ramp.
