Took mine to some bodyshops to quote on respraying the roof and tailgate as there are some contaminants under the paint and it has failed on the edge. Was quoted £3-4k by a couple of shops. Does this seem reasonable to you all?

I agree. I hate it when you go into a body shop and one of the first questions they ask (after "Is it on insurance?") is "How much is your car worth?....

Was told the other day by a fairly respected restorer (other marque), that good quality resprays basically start at 10k now and go up depending on final finish and what else they find needs doing along the way.

Am in the trade and any less than 3k and your gunna get a poor job as they won't be enough money in the job after materials and labour

2k base coat Paint alone for a full respray 4ltre your talking £300 for Qaulity paint

That's without the decent laqure they hopefully put on at £80+ a kit and then the rest lol

Pay for what u get

I'm in North Hampshire, wouldn't be opposed to traveling to Witney as it's less than an hour away. Can you share the shop details please?
Cotswold Accident and Repair and whilst most of their work is as per their name the owner (small family business) is a classic car expert, sorted my wife’s Rover mini for me following an accident and shows his own car. So so knowledgeable and defo worth a call, only issue will be timeframe but you will get an accurate price for a 1st class result. Happy to ride along with you if need be …. I live in Highworth so on the way

I used a guy in Weymouth to do my body and paint work. I’ve emailed him to see if he’s still in business as he was going to close up

Awesome thanks, will have to pop down there when I next get a day off, always good to have recommendations! If the guy in Weymouth is still about let me know, photos look good! Thanks again

Just asked him and he’s not taking on any more business but said the following:
It's probably because they don't want to do it or they want to go back to the bare metal on the roof and tailgate and redo any body filler work before paint so they can guarantee their paint work.

Because of the roof they would have to paint the rear quarter panels.

If it is metallic then they will have to blend into the doors too to match the quarter panels.

But still, that is a very high quote. I'd be around £1500 for an initial quote without having seen it.
