What did you do to your Z this week?

Nothing, as it's been sitting in my mate's mum's garage since August 7 ... I drove it over there fine and it then refused to even turn over. So we pushed it in and there it sits ...

Having an extension done on the house (still) and the space in my garage is occupied by lots of stuff for the next month (again). I had to sack off the builder in the end as he was dreadful …

Tune in next month for more exciting updates …

Replaced the AFM->throttle body rubber yesterday
I previously repaired the old one, which had the usual splits at the bottom of the rubber, with that powder stuff - Q-Bond. BTW - no new holes after the powder fix so something people might want to try as a temporary measure

Car is going really really well now that it has clean fuel and vacuum check (I was always worried about the old rubber)

Goes into garage on Monday for the MSA manifold install so God knows what surprises they will find but at least I will get rid of the putt, putt, putt of the leaking manifold that's on it

Phase 1 of the car will then be complete - phase 2 being planned

Did you try to restart it when it was hot or cooled down? I've had a Z refuse to turn when hot. It may be the starter (which I changed) but my car had a poor -ve cable to the bellhousing and body.

Brilliant - thanks for letting me know 👍
The rest of the exhaust is a new Z-Story so I'm hoping the two combined will make a complementary noise

After Donnington, I felt I needed to get at least one of my cars in shape

Tonight I got Z #1 running again with some sage advice from @Rob Gaskin yesterday. It still needs odd bits sorting out, but I could get it back on the road shortly.

Z #2 is still in the planning stages but I've been unboxing things and seeing how it all may go together now my garage has been refurbed. I'll likely do a separate thread on this one (mainly to keep me focussed on completion!

You’re going to need an A-Team montage and Mr. T with a blowtorch to pull this off in time Kieron
I know 🥴. Always good to know you’ve used up 80% of your project time and only actually progressed 20% of the build l!

Likely result is implementation of Plan B is plain old Suzuki Swift (still JDM!) and I give my Paddock ticket away 😫

I got it from my local battery supplier ,it’s a shield,If you are looking for a battery for yours little tip is to take your battery clamp with you so you know it’ll fit round it properly, you might have to put a couple of small blocks of wood underneath in the plastic tray to bring it up to the right height ( about inch thick )for the bolt to bolt in properly into the bulkhead,It’s a right pain trying to find one that fits perfect without the blocks of wood also my engine is 3.2 litre so I got one that has a bit more oomph in it

Pulled the z out of storage so I could get the Celica out. Z did some silly stuff ignition-wise; on some turns of the key, nothing happened at all, sometimes started as normal. Needs some investigation. In the meantime, took Celica home and dismantled the front to fit the fibreglass replica valance and the lip spoiler (didn’t want to drill holes in the original steel valance and the replica is excellent quality). Still in primer - the paint match is proving awkward, due to the car’s respray in Japan being a rather unusual mint green-tinted white rather than the original. I’ve got to take the steel valance to the paint factors for spectrometer readings and a custom mix.
