There is a tool for keeping those carbs ingood tune as I had them on my first Z and using them with a colour tune the car always ran perfect can’t remember wot it was called or looked like as it was a long time ago but I’ll see if I’ve still got it as it’s something I wouldn’t throw away

Ahah.. Sorry Paul,it's been some time since logging in. If you have one, I'd love to know what it is..

Spring is in the air and I took a wee trip round to Dave's (aka DC Engine Builder) in my Z to check the colour of Addison's painted block against mine, then headed off for a 3 hr drive. Fantastic!.. Seeing it parked up on the drive, the light dimming and reflections from the new LED lights installed in my street, I was reminded of how privileged it is to own one.. yum yum!.. When out n about I parked up at a shop only to be greeted by a chap in a shiny new S Class who was dying to sit in the Z, I happily obliged and we spent 20 minutes chatting.

Delighted to say no suffrage whilst in storage over the winter. I'd done a little servicing on Sunday, not much, she fired up instantly once fuel went through. I fiddled with the carbs only to check balance on choke, then throughout a rev range once warmed up, overall I'm very happy.... Except.. I'm still getting the idle speed settling a little higher than normal on occasion, a blip of the throttle and it settles nicely. The two areas I'm focusing on are the springs linked to the heat shield and the throttle shafts which I know are a little worn and have been on my jobs list for some time.

Dave has asked me to source some parts for Addison's build. We've decided to go for new pistons, one required quite a bit of force to remove having being sat for 30 years. I've identified sources, but would hugely appreciated if an eye could be cast over before I order, I'll post up the list in Parts Wanted. The plan is that once built and the original 260 carbs refurbished which I'm doing myself, we drop them into my Z for a month or two whilst Dave rebuilds my engine and my carbs are refurbished. Can't wait really!.. So looking forward to feeling the difference of 240 vs 260 flat tops and a rebuilt engine.

I suffered the same for ages, until I finally got round to removing all the throttle linkage parts and cleaning, painting & greasing.
The bit that was pretty crappy was where it changes 90 degrees and connects to the manifold.
There is a plastic doughnut like washer/bearing that was gummed up with old grease and muck.
Don’t know if that alone was the main problem, but it doesn’t do it anymore.

Also check the smooth operation of the main throttle butterfly shaft between the carbs, I found mine was binding a tad!

Collected hubs from the welder with BC Racing tubes welded in place. I’d cut the original struts down and dropped them off Weds afternoon. Done by Thurs.

Took a drive up to snetterton in the rat look zed. Good days testing for Dean with a few issues sorted on the car. The drive home started well until a traffic cop notice my original US licence plate on the front of my car!!! Got pulled over for a full vehicle inspection by the cop on a bike and another one who knew a bit more about the legality of imported cars. The main focus started with the legality of my pressed US style rear plate and font spacing and after a 20 min discussion on it they except that although not actually legal it wasn’t tacking the piss so they let it go. They then decided not to Bother looking for other issues and moved onto a vote on wheather I should paint it of leave it ratty. The ratty look won with me a the traffic cop choosing the rat look. The other cop was undecided. We all agreed that the original blue front licence plate looked cool and should leave it as is and just accept I might get pulled on it occasionally. They gave me a ticket on it but said it will only be a small fine. They didn’t pull me on all the other things they could of and sent me on my way after taking a few pictures of the car.

So... Keep it as it is, here's a fine for how it is?

Yes Jon. His words were: “I’m goog to have to do a ticket for the front plate but I can see why you want to keep it, as it does look cool. It’s up to you what you do but if it was me i’d Leave it on.”

Nice to see that! I'm currently not running a front plate at all so fingers crossed someone similar finds me. I do keep a full legally spaced front plate for the windscreen when I'm driving it
