What did you do to your Z this week?

It's the Life racing F88 that was running the ratty car. It is still on loan from a mate of mine. It has a few issues with most of the coil drivers burnt out. As I only need one to drive the single coil it's perfect for my situation. It does mean I have to retain the dizzy cap and rotor arm to distribute the HT to each plug though.

Thick and fast this week: just dropped off that JDM N42 that I did all the porting work on for Dixie's stroker at a local precision engineer (Progress Aero Works, who make the P.A.W. model aircraft diesel engines among other things - proper old school precision machine shop) to have the valve guides installed and the seats cut. Also, they are making me a little finisher/spacer for the throttle cable conversion on the red Fairlady Z that I designed. It will locate in the existing throttle linkage hole in the bulkhead while being threaded through the middle for adjustment. Plus, it'll look a bit more special than just a couple of larger washers sandwiching the bulkhead, which would be the ghetto alternative!

The M50B28 engine that was going in to my car has been benched to make way for the latest purchase EXTRA:D
Thankfully, all the mounts that have been made up will be a straight fit so won’t have to make them again

That does look fantastic Rich, I have to say.
Thanks! Had to get a bit brutal this afternoon though. Tried fitting it up to the engine and discovered that the Harada manifold and the Fujitsubo exhaust manifold don’t play nice together - they clash at the flange around the first primary tube. I’m in the process of clearancing the front bottom corner of the intake to make things work. A faff, but will be invisible when done, so not a biggie.

I had the same problem fitting my new intake manifold a couple of weeks ago. Started with just the front primary and as that got closer it started hitting everywhere else. Lots of modifying to get it just right.

Spent this evening getting the mx5 alternator to fit the zed. Pretty easy to get it to fit but a shame the mount needed to be modified as seen in the pictures. Also re-tapped the holes to 10mm.

Ha! Turns out it wasn’t hitting the manifold (after I’d clearanced it a load) - it was hitting on a damn blanking plug on the thermostat housing. SOB! Now taking a chunk off the back corner of the linkage tower on that end to sort it...

For the record John, what mx5 year, model, part number is that? Even with the butchery might be useful info.

After some life upheaval I finally got to get in the garage this weekend with the nice weather. (Realised my membership on here has lapsed so I need to sort that too as my Z calendar is for last year!)

Despite no attention for a good few months she fired right up, so I gave her a wash n wax and went out to run some errands in her. No problems at all - even though the drive ended up being closer to 75 miles in the end :)

Butchery!!! :)

It is from an early MX5 with a v-belt pulley, NA model. If you look on ebay the ones listed say suitable for NA model but none of them are due to the ribbed belt. You have to examine the pictures and find one with the v-belt. The NB and NC one are controlled by the ECU so cant even be modified to work with the v-belt. It was a shame to modify the mount and I had considered making a custom one but in the end I found an old mount with the threads stipped so didn't feel quite so bad about "butchering" it.

No offence intended :)

I always preferred the feel of the b30, you should hit a nice compromise there. You can run them on the stock ecu and loom saving £££’s and have perfect fueling etc.
Yeah that’s the plan. Ive never actually driven a E36 M3 so will be nice to see how well it goes in the 280z
