Can i ask what the cost was to post a diff from Arizona to the UK????

Surely, it was around £160 and change though this firm and DHL delivered. Total weight 35Kgs. (Edit: I arranged pick up from over here, filled in and emailed the customs forms to the seller, he printed 4 copies and gave to the driver, simples!)

I was wondering too?

Does your wife read this stuff?

Thankfully not, but the car is in her name so every time something arrives it's a case of "but it's for your car darling, I care about you so I want YOUR car to be perfect"!! (In all fairness it was a 40th birthday gift to each other but she's only driven it 5 miles [emoji13])

I’ve also been readying it for the Le Mans trip. Amongst other things, I’ve fitted a tow strap.

Swapped all the bulbs for LED lamps on the ZX. Indicators, stoplamps, reverse lamps, side lights and headlights. So much brighter. Used warm white for side lights and headlights, they retain the softer filament bulb type hue to the light but so much more light output.

Didn’t need to swap the relay for the hazards , they blink normally. Had to swap the relay for indicators to stop them flashing too quickly. Swapped it for an electronic relay but still has the clicking sound. Couple of cheapie relays I tried off eBay didn’t click.

Also swapped the cabin lights for LED bulbs, but going to retain the filament bulbs for the instruments as the coloured LEDs I found too harsh on my old eyes.

Great company I got them from, huge range. I would definitely recommend them for the prices and customer service .

They are based just outside Bristol.

Jealous of all the people driving their cars the last couple of weeks, with the heat and some personal stuff I've really not had the appetite/ability to take the car out. I did manage to decompress a bit with a day of stripping rust and painting the floor pans, but certainly not something I'd of preferred to do on such fine weather!

I've been fitting the same tow straps as you Jon. This was after the marshals at Brands Hatch mentioned the car red would be tricky to recover if I went off. I made sure I didn't leave the track.

I've also been playing with Diffs after my trip to Spa. The plate diff fitted to the red car has started clunking a lot once it warm. I guess being used for a weekends racing hasn't help it much!! So I took it to a local place for a check over. The plates could do with replacing but due to a shortage of funds I got then to "adjust" it so I'll keep my fingers crossed for Le Mans. They also put a quaff into a spare R180 3.36 I had laying around. This is the one I plan on using but is probably not a good idea to swap the diff immediately before a long trip. Also did a transmission oil change.

I was having a dig around the garage today and found a couple of R200's I didn't realise I had. One is a 3.54 but the other a 3.9. I'm guessing these are pretty rare now?

Nothing as usual ... hoping to get back to doing something in the next coupe of weeks ... even if it's only discovering what it actually looks like again ... it's covered in crap atm.

I know this feeling all too well, recently all I've had to show for my car has been stress and an empty bank account :banghead:

I'm desperate to get it road worthy asap before the summer is gone again!

Spent the evening (after kiddie bed time) replacing the sticky when warm and always slow reacting rev counter + all the lights in the instruments. Fixed quite a few PO electrical bodges along the way and wrapped loom with proper padded wiring loom tape. What a no.1 PITA job though!! I had no idea I'd be taking half the dash apart to replace a few bulbs.

Those bulbs clearly heat up a fair bit as the solder on bottoms of some had dented/melted.

For the first time in my z ownership I can see all my gauges at night and can turn up the brightness without fearing that the rev counter would warm up and stop working!!

What bulbs did you use? Did you consider LED's?

Used the stock 3.4 watt / shape bulbs I already have - bought on eBay from India and dirt cheap.

Did briefly consider LEDs but I don't like the flicker / rainbow effect my eyes are super sensitive to with PWM dimmers. That's why I hate LED brake lights, if I look left to right I see many lights not just one. Without dimmers they are too bright for my liking.

One day I will bring to life my own design and go LED but for now and doing very little night time driving, the normal bulbs will do and will last a VERY long time.

What I would do if going LED (and because I like the switchgear on the car to work as stock) would be to use a 5v voltage regulator so as to have a rock solid +V regardless of alternator fluctuations.

Like this one ...

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/182307855706

I would wire the existing dimmer potentiometer to it (and calibrate it's resistance) so that it sits around the quiescent point of the LED power curve. That way you get analogue dimming and zero flicker.
