What did you do to your Z this week?

If anything it is somewhat disrespectful. The whole thing comes off as typical SEMA-related commercial hype. I'm surprised it hasn't got the usual 'shopping list' parts supplier graphics down the side of it, or one of those false jeopardy TV shows where they rush to meet a deadline.

On the nail:bow:

why I asked. These words (copy/replica/tribute/evocation/lookalike/fake etc etc) are moveable feasts anyway, so trying to pin down a true definition is probably a waste of time.

But still, the words 'replica' and 'lookalike' at least seem to have an ocean of space between them .....................................if I - as a private individual - attempt to 'replicate' something then I feel I should at least make an effort to replicate the essential, the essence of the original, as much as is possible. So, for me it has to be a lot more than a paint job.

I don't see how you can do an adequate job of capturing the essence of a 432, let alone a 432-R, without something very close to the correct drivetrain.
So, by definition, any S30 with a swapped engine whether it be Nissan/other/na/compressor/6cyl/other has already lost it's original essence....kinda like General Ripper : "But I... I do deny them my essence."

Firstly, I am not 'replicating' but making a 'tribute' to this great cars, not even an 'evocation' (the act of bringing or recalling a feeling, memory, or image to the conscious mind) because I'm not interested in evoking said image in others - this is all personal, selfish, my project for me - MY tribute !

Secondly, I am not you - you've done yours, very nice and garage-bound - mine will be driven, seen and ultimately talked about more than yours which'll be a shame seeing how well you've built yours and how close to looking like the real thing it is.

Thirdly, if the description 'tribute' offends, I can always resort to ''in the style of" to match its' wheels.EXTRA:D

No, it doesn't work like that. You were talking about making a 'tribute' (insert whatever alternative term suits) to something which was pretty much defined by its drivetrain (and all the more so since you would not be able to replicate PZR body pressings). That drivetrain - I would argue - is pretty much the essence of the thing you would be trying to pay 'tribute' to, so how would any other drivetrain fit the bill? You'd be in Sung Kang territory with his N/A RB26 apparently "paying tribute" to the L24 he already had, but chose not to use (LOL).

For a model which is not defined by its drivetrain, it doesn't matter so much does it?

Firstly, I am not 'replicating' but making a 'tribute' to this great cars, not even an 'evocation' (the act of bringing or recalling a feeling, memory, or image to the conscious mind) because I'm not interested in evoking said image in others - this is all personal, selfish, my project for me - MY tribute !

Sounds remarkably similar to the arcane Sung Kang methodology to me. Like paying 'tribute' to Portofino with a holiday in Skegness. Skeggy of course has its own charms, but Portofino it ain't.

Secondly, I am not you - you've done yours, very nice and garage-bound...

LOL. I have paintings and drawings hanging on the wall at home too. Perhaps I should put them out on the pavement for passers-by to enjoy instead?

..mine will be driven, seen and ultimately talked about more than yours...

Tee hee. A rolling ad for your business activities, just like the footer on every post. Perfect!

Screen shot saved for future use. Perfect Accidental Partridge there.

Let's start by saying to me the safari 240z's are the pinnacle of Japanese motorsport. No other model or marque comes any closer.

So when I see Mr Nissan with that Juke homage / tribute I find it disrespectful.

On the contrary. I think they've got the definition down pat. If that thing (bearing in mind it doesn't even exist, as it is a CGI) isn't a good example of how a company can pay tribute/homage to its own history, then what is?

Paying homage to the safari winning 240z's by attempting to create a safari Juke is a p#ss take in my book. Its not even a sports / GT offered by the Nissan where one could perhaps understand Nissan capitalising historic sporting success. But as you point out..

These words (copy/replica/tribute/evocation/lookalike/fake etc etc) are moveable feasts anyway, so trying to pin down a true definition is probably a waste of time. But still, the words 'replica' and 'lookalike' at least seem to have an ocean of space between them

There isn't a 132 point checklist that universally defines and binds what homage /tribute should be. It's people's personal opinions

Case in mind when we have diametrically opposite views on Nissan's and Sung's attempts at homage/tribute etc.

So we agree to disagree. :)

I have a modest plan to build a Z432-R tribute and replica, copy and other such words will have nothing to do with it.

Ditch the M3 engine, still not too late:banghead:. Instead this is the best option out there for your R432R:D

Would you spend £12k on a twin cam head or £4k on one of the new CNC heads from Japan?

The Juke in question is - shhh! whisper it - not real. It is a computer generated graphic...

I find it hard to get worked up about. If we are playing Disrespect Top Trumps I can think of a few other Nissan ad department fauxs pas that would trump it.

Nissan Benelux calling Yutaka Katayama 'The Designer Of The 240Z' is a better one in my book.

Maybe you should have a peep at the 'Safari Rally Tribute' (that word again...) which got sold on Bring A Trailer, and is now owned by Randy Jaffe in the USA. They appear to think it is an accurate representation of The Real Thing.

And if my aunt Doris had a set of wheels, she'd be a bus.

The R32 GTR disagrees with you!

BNR32 is 2nd place on my list.

CNC heads would make it a R231R:leaving:

The French man wants to build R432R if I understand his posts:conf2:

Had a little visit to the storage barn yesterday to reorganise and take delivery of Chris Vega’s long-term project...

South African 240Z, repairs completed and fresh Safari Gold paint job. Looks superb. Unfortunately didn’t take any pics before we put it in the Air Chamber for storage. Things are a bit more snug in there now - my red Z in its Carcoon, that SA Z, Chris’s L28 turbo 240Z, and my Celica.

Gratuitous extra Celica shots before the rearrangement just because:
