Took my car out for a run fill up on super unleaded before putting it away for winter, brakes went funny just as I got home, the pedal felt loose and when keeping my foot on it I could feel it dropping. Checked for any leaks etc but could not see anything. Strange.

Mike, did you check inside the car where the MC comes through?

After the other thread about trackers I decided to actually fit the one I bought for the 260 a few weeks back. Went in no problem so took it for a quick run to test it. All good.
Probably the final run of the year so now tucked up in it's bed waiting for Spring.

Doors arrived today. Tailgate has been sent by courier as it is over the EMS post dimensional limit.

Marugen Shōkai's high reputation remains intact. Quality is superb. They are expensive to buy and ship, but I think it is money well spent considering the theme of this project.

They look like great replicas of the originals.
Remembering the pain of fitting the windows in the steel doors, I'd be nervous around damaging the FRP

I’d image a lesser chance of sliced hands whilst doing so though? :D

Alan, what 'furniture' are you fitting to the door - glass, winder etc or poly/sliders?

The whole lot. Proper wind up/wind down windows using the original mechanisms, but with Plexiglass/acrylic instead of glass windows. Just like the 69/70/71 Works rally cars before the FIA outlawed fibreglass doors and acrylic windows and the Works team reverted to 'full fat' steel doors and glass windows.

The acrylic windows will have the Nissan 'hamburger' heat stamp just like on my 432-R replica:

This was a couple of weeks ago, but zipped the Fairlady Z up in its bag for winter (yes, I need new foam intake filters on the fans!). Car was very grumpy beforehand; wouldn’t start, seemingly due to very fouled plugs. And the clutch continues to be non-existent until pumped a few times after standing. And an exhaust hanger is snapped and needs rewelding.

Basically, in the spring, it needs some time and effort directing at it to work through bugs that have developed during its extended pandemic lay-up, and sort a few cosmetics. Not least the fact that the bonnet has quite a lot of microblistering on it now. It’s had a bit for years, but it has spread to the point it’s really irritating and unsightly now. I think the goal will be to strip back and have the bonnet and front end resprayed/blended in. That exercise could escalate though, and it’s competing with the project 240Z and the Celica...

On the project front - shell basically done. Next step - tinted Upol Raptor for the underside and 2k hi-build and finish sanding for the external panels. Also may paint the inside of the cab area over the next few weeks. Very happy with my new Iwata gun though and the epoxy primer finish.

I went to the NEC.
I saw only one Z. One of those common orange 240s.
I also saw a very nice kpgc10 with an actual S20 engine. The first I've seen in person I think.
no pics, sorry.

Actually one car I did take a picture of, took very few as was there with my 3 year old so was more about actually getting to a car show than taking in a great deal of detail.

I can finally declare victory over my perpetual sump oil leak. The car started to leak oil a couple of years ago, dripping from between the rear of the sump and the transmission. I’ve changed the sump gasket twice and the rear crank oil seal once. Each time the leak would stop until the car was warmed up and then the leak would get steadily worse than the subsequent time before.

Set about changing the sump gasket again, which on a 280ZX is no small job. The powersteering rack needs to come off and to do that the cross member needs dropping down with the engine being supported on a cross beam. You can then get the ruddy sump off.

Whilst waiting for a new gasket to arrive with the sump off, I noticed residual oil tracking out of the rear crank bearing cap oil seals. After reading an article on the ZCar.com forum, someone had the same problem as I’ve had and found that changing these seals whilst the sump was off fixed it.

So armed with a pick I thought I might see if I could winkle them out. No wrinkling required, they literally fell out. So replaced these with some Felpro seals and nails. The ones that came out were not secured with a nail but had a pin running through them.

150 miles of hard driving and six weeks later my garage floor is bone dry. So I can confidently declare success, no more drippy sump.:)
