Do they even have those notices any more? ooh look at those sparks from my phone, said no one ever :)

I too think its a bit bizarre especially given the fact that quite a few garages (e.g., BP) have apps to pay for fuel. However, I think that the Galaxy Note 7 showed that you can easily get a good spark and resulting fire from a poor design / implementation and that was only 5 years ago.

I've seen conflicting measurements on the 'net for the clearances (cold).

8/10 for the intake and 10/12 for the exhaust ...

I went with the former.

I had a mate that used his phone once whilst filling up, it did spark and unbelievably the vapours set his jacket on fire, police turned up and arrested him...for being in possession of a firearm :EXTRAlol:

Drove to a local body shop.

First drive of the year and I'm pleased to say she made it the whole 6 mile round trip!

I spotted a minor dent in one of the frame rails a while ago which the body shop will be pulling out. They don't seem to think it's major but for my peace of mind I want it sorted before I do any big work.

I thought I'd try and start the thing. I don't know how long it takes to prime the mechanical fuel pump but it seemed to be taking an age to even be getting to the filter so I thought there may be some kind of blockage in the fuel lines. So I thought I'd start from the tank forwards. Removing the feed pipe from the tank I managed to somehow break the solder/lead holding the union on the plate that is attached to the tank so in the end had to remove the whole tank. I think I'll have to JBWeld this back on. Definitely the first time the pipes had been off by the looks of things. So the tank is being cleaned up atm before being sealed and powder coated ...

Good fun these old cars!

After a long break I used to start mine on Easy Start and that was usually good enough to get the pump primed.

Not too bad from what I can see. I have flushed it out with a pressure washer. The stuff from Frosts has just turned up to prep it and seal it. This was the fuel that I drained out (I'd just put a gallon in, with the hope of starting it!).

I should have done that Rob, but after 50 years the tank and the lines would benefit from some love.

A shot from inside. Just leaving it to dry naturally before I work on the inside more. I've decided not to replace the fuel feed and return at the moment as I will be doing some exhaust work later in the year I think so I will do it then - it looks like a right faff with the propshaft on as well. So I'm going to leave it until those can be removed. Makes sense to me! So I better make sure they're as clear as they can be.

Wired up a fuel Primer momentary switch with swanky green LED to match gauge lights. I couldn't bare to drill a hole in the existing Ash tray, so sourced a spare from Maserati Compound. Car is a 73 240z and came with the twin relay setup for the electric fuel pump which only allowed power to the pump when the engine runs, so it's handy to bypass the relays and prime fuel bowls on demand before turning the engine over.
