What did you do to your Z this week?

Installed my new adjustable diff mount yesterday and took the Z for a spirited drive. No more clunk!

Gave mine a mini-service yesterday. Changed the oil and filter, dizzy cap and rotor arm. Checked the rest of the engine bay and glad I did. Noticed that the pulley wheel on the power steering adjuster pulley was wobbling which probably accounted for the squealing belt on start up. Turns out that the nut holding the wheel on had worked loose but on closer examination, the thread had stripped on the spindle. Was really lucky that it didn't fall apart whilst driving otherwise I could have had some steering issues & it could have gotten a little hairy not to mention I would have lost the pulley wheel which are not easy to come by..

Took it all apart and re-cut the thread then found I didn't have a nut to fit so in the end I used a smaller threaded nut, drilled it out and re-tapped the correct thread in it. Worked a treat. Will hopefully be fitting my new FRP front spoiler next weekend.

Aaand I tested another new exciting part (which I am a bit proud of tbh): Plug&Play SU throttle cable conversion kit. Doesn't require any modification to the car at all (ball type connector to throttle pedal, custom made clamp lever attaches to throttle shaft, bowden tube holder plate attaches to balance bar). It also maintains the original fast throttle adjustment screw for setting up the carbs (replaces the original plate).
I used Teflon lined bowden tube and high end cables for minimal friction. I had all parts laser cut, machined them afterwards and had everything yellow zinc coated to match the rest of the car. I'd say it looks pretty OE.

Even though my throttle linkage was in perfectly fine condition before, the difference is unbelievable (to me at least). Drivability has improved incredibly. Heel&Toeing is so much more rewarding now and there's no more jerky stop and go traffic pedal control.

Congratulations. That is a very well executed upgrade

The throttle feel is so much better with cable for sure, I can say its never going back to rod linkage;)

Amazingly, I’ve been out there in the garage doing a bit this week. The starter motor looked as though it had never seen any attention so I thought I’d clean up the contacts a bit.

I’ve fitted the rad now with new hoses and also a new hose from the water pump to the heater. I’m blocking off the pipes just after the heater as I’ve dispensed with the water-heated intake on the other side of the block.

Finished cleaning & lining my tank. Had the outside vapour blasted and it looks in good nick.
