What did you do to your Z this week?

Started refreshing the suspension on my Z today. Sway bar links, tension rod bushes and steering knuckle installed.

What's the best way to repack the steering arm ballpoint with grease? It oozed out when I separated it!

Will be replacing shocks, strut mount and all bearings once a few more bits arrive from the US.

I've seen the grease nipple removed and 'studs' screwed in meaning that you have to have a grease nipple in your garage for that purpose.

Couldn't see a nipple underneath but will have a better check tomorrow. Don't have the most space and was surrounded by tools earlier so couldn't get under!

I work on my blue 240 nearly every day. I've spent hundreds of hours extensively modifying my wiring and installing a new heater and tripmeter. I have huge problems with access due to my garage but I've nearly finished. I just need to finish testing everything and wrap the cables.

I'm pleased with the result and I now know my car a lot better.

I'll post a video 'tour' when it's complete.

Look forward to that Rob. I have lots of ideas of what I am going to do, it's just finding the time to do it - and I was on furlough since last March! Now been made redundant finally and on three months notice at last ... :smoke:

I have done quite a lot on the car though but have also done a million and one DIY jobs around the house ...

Fortunately I'm retired however I'm less 'productive' than I was when working full-time with 3 kids at home (less energy as you get older). I do most jobs at home e.g. tiling, plumbing, wiring, decorating, gardening, but I've got those pretty well sorted now until we start decorating again. I bought my house new in '91 and it's now at the stage where it needs a few windows replacing (I've replaced about 10 glass units) but the wood is getting damp. I stain it each year.

I sometimes think about the time I've spent working on cars - if I'd done that with houses I'd have probably made some decent money but cars are my interest (my Dad was the same).

I find with projects you've got to do a bit each day if possible - if you stall it's harder to get motivated to restart. Small 'wins' are satisfying. With my wiring I started intending just to sort out the front lighting 'mess' but it escalated into much more when I discovered 'issues' and so went looking for more which I found . I then decided to relocate all the electrical units from the driver's footwell into the glove box (and headlight relays, wiper relay [Honda motor] ). I then removed the heater for access and changed that too.

I got to the point where I thought about what I had to do to finish but that can overwhelm you if you're not careful (hence many unfinished projects you see for sale). Every wire is visible (through the whole car) because I couldn't work from the inaccurate diagrams - I've learnt a lot. If I was doing this again I'd
'rewire' the car from scratch. I even bought an Impreza column switch unit to replace the old switches but that was a 'bridge too far' re originality and complexity.

It is amazing that since buying my first Z in 1996 I think about them in great detail every day and work on them most days. Is it a weakness or a strength?

Also blasted and repainted some of the suspension bits as there was a bit of surface rust starting to show,

Just waiting for the rear wheel bearings to turn up, then I can finish it off
