What did you do to your Z this week?

The indicator problem is almost certainly the switch needing a clean, it's a simple job, I managed it successfully last week! There's even a video on YouTube of someone showing the process.

Thanks, looks like a winter project to me.... are new ones still available if all goes wrong?

Cleaning the column switching out is a must do - if they've not been done for a long time, they can be a right filth and fluff magnet. Many issues can be sorted by ensuring the unit is as clean as you can reasonably get it. Also, check the various solder points for any evidence of wear. I've had intermittent issues with the wire for the dipped beams (which is soldered to the underside of the switch unit) coming away. This is, IMO, partially due to usage/current, but also because the wire is at a very tight angle and tension is pulling the solder away. At some point, I need to take the unit off and look at replacing that wire entirely to give a bit more slack and solder it on the bench rather than in situ in the car!

I also discovered that the headlights were not working, but the fuses were fine, I took one apart and bulb was fine, then I discovered that the dip beam is fine but up beam is not but does come on when the flasher is pressed. Any ideas why the up beam is not working but it does on the flasher?

I would check connections at the relays as a matter of course, but regarding the switch problem - they are almost always dirty and (this may sound daft, but it has got them working for me on a couple of cars until I could get around to taking the stalk switches off and cleaning them) just cycling through the switches ON and OFF - maybe even 50 or more times - can be enough to self-clean the contacts to the point where they start working again. They are prone to get lazy through lack of use.

Being a Japanese market model it will have some differences to the UK market models made in the same period, but it will certainly be closer to the UK market data than the North American market data which often dominates research results. If you get stuck, just ask. I've got a fair chunk of Japanese market-specific data at hand.

Good luck!

My car actually left the confines of the garage for the first time since 2016 ...

I took the time to push it out to clean up under it and put stuff up in the top of the garage as it’s now gone back in as the 944 needs some sill work so will be on the drive for a while ...

Who doesn't like a nice bit of red tape?

I had sent off my documents to apply for tax exemption as the Zed is over 40 years old, so was happy when I got a letter from the DVLA. They said I needed to reapply with a V10 form and fill in 'Historic' under Tax Class. Very annoying since I had followed the guidance on the Gov.uk website to the letter... Anyway, I have just resent it back to them along with the documents. Fingers crossed it goes through this time. It would have been helpful to know I needed a V10 in the first place...

Can't you go to the postoffice to make that registration change any more?
