I’m not going to waste anyone’s time by saying wot I’m asking as no one can give me an answer to how much they have to spend on one,it’s done 55000 fsh it’s mint and it’s over 22 k so all I say is to anyone if interested get up off yer butt and come have a look, and I don’t mean that in a sarcastic way as on here there are too many time wasters that ask how much then I don’t hear anymore,Hence I sell my bits through word of mouth mainly

The flip side is, I don’t have a budget, My budget depends on how much I want what I want. So when someone asks what mine is, the correct answer is, depends on the car!

Current list is
MercW124(s124) estate
Merc R129 320
Bmw Z4m
Saab 900/9000

So am I understanding this correctly?

Your company car may be delayed so you are now considering if you want one at all. Perhaps you could own a modern classic as your daily car and fund it with the 'company car' allowance? You don't have another modern car of your own? Does your wife/partner have a modern daily car that you could share in emergencies?

If so that is an interesting idea.

My thoughts:

Buy something simple.

If you buy a low mileage 'minter' it wont stay like that so it will devalue.

A 'modern classic' will be thirsty and road tax will be high. MoT's.

Reliability may be an issue. Availability of parts may be difficult and are you going to 'mend' it?

Insurance will be a factor especially for business use.

I've never had a company car - I used to hire one for long journeys to meetings or use the train. However company cars a stress-free, hassle free and you don't get financial surprises.

Well, you know wot a low mileage Z 4 in mint condition goes for so that gives you some idea as to wot I expect to get for it and you won’t get much more to the gallon if you get the Saab 900 16 v turbo,I’ve had most if em so there is your answer,if your interested then make arrangements to come and view the car,it’s that simple

not quite. I put the car allowance into my pension, saving tax id pay on it. So say over 3 years, an extra £20k in my pension.

I wait 4 months, have the latest/greatest electric car(400hp and oodles of torque) however miss out on the pension savings. P11d value goes up also.

I buy something that won’t really loose money apart from running and upkeep(tax is cheap on most of them). We have another modern family car.

insurance isn’t an issue.

Ok, investing in a pension is far wiser than spending on a modern car. Some people think 'live for today' - however tomorrow comes quicker than you might think.

Yes I am sure, the facelift versions of the petrol E39 have Euro 4 compliant engines. A major factor as to why i bought one.

chill out! I never tell anyone my budget when buying anything in the uk. I only asked you for a few basic details. I’ve made it very clear on here before what a fan I am of that engine etc.

ive a list of cars I’d like. Just need to see this week exactly what is happening with my lease car then pick from the list I want. At that point I’ll pay whatever the right car costs.
