Being one of the people who ran the .net site which is now closed down, I can say with some authority, that had we had a subscription, selling would have been limited to subscribed members, but with non subbed being able to buy.

The reason we didn't have a subscription, was because we weren't busy enough to justify it and one of the reasons we closed down, was because for all the **** thrown our way for running it, we got somewhat fed up of bank rolling it.

We didn't need a full server to run that club either, zclub does I believe use a dedicated server, because there is enough site traffic to warrant it for one, but also because the database alone will be huge after all these years, let alone the gallery directories containing all the pictures uploaded during that time.

Without going too far off topic, the other (now closed) .net forum didn't charge for classifieds and you didn't need to be subbed to buy or sell......

Hi, I will stop you right there.
There are very good reasons for me (partly) closing zxclub.net.
The website was 100% funded by me and my husband. At the end of it I will not condone a view that any individual is to be expected to do that. I won't go into it as that would indeed go very much off topic, but leave it as trust me, I know, it cant survive without finds.

But should it benefit everyone?
In my mind there is nothing wrong with the way it is now and if kept that way it is of benefit to paid up members. It may encourage non paid up members to join. The benefits of joining far outweigh the modest joining fee.
I would have thought most people with zeds who look into this forum would be members anyway.

I think one of the problems is that the site caters for all z marques, many of us are also members of other z forums/clubs and of clubs tied to our specific marque. On top of that some members will also be affiliated to motorsport forums for track days, drag challenges or drifting etc.
On top of all that the zeds tend to be second cars so the owners may also be a member on forums that are tied to the car the drive daily...that's a lot of clubs to be a part of and the membership fees rack up in no time so you really need to see a benefit for your subscription.
Just an explanation from a non-subbed user point of view who has been around for many years. I've bought many parts from other forums over the years and of course directly from Mr F but never from this forum - I have bought from members of this forum via ebay though. I very rarely check the classifieds as there isn't much of a churn of ads...that and I took the huff with it because the London Motor Museum tried to buy my z31 when it was listed and I didn't know for months despite being on the site every day - for some reason the messages you receive from classifieds are held inside the classifieds section and not included with all the other private messages from the main forum which is crazy. By the time I discovered their messages it was too late and they sourced another z31.

£15 a year to take advantage of the benefits available seems damn reasonable compared to most imho. I'm a member on one of the BMW forums, was a member on alfaromeo forums when I had one, skyline forums when I had one of them.....bar being free, this is the cheapest one I've ever been a member of.

so how is the voting going and how many members are bothering to vote compared to non members

What is quite surprising is that out of the 9 non subscribed members who voted
1 voted to keep the 7 day option
1 voted for the subscribed only option
1 voted for the non members minimal fee option
6 voted for the free for all non subscribed option

Extract that from the voting graph at the top ....... looking like Option 3 if non-paying members votes are not being counted?

I take it when asked "Want to be notified by email when users post replies? Yes or No" you didn't select 'yes'?

No idea it was a long time ago. I just expected a new private message to show up along side any other messages, no reason to have them going to two different inboxes within the same site as far as I can see.

Sorry guys seems pointless to carry on with this at the minute shame as it was meant to be a pointer on which way the members wanted the club to go
