Wannabe Z Owner Saying Hello! :)

I will have a few for sale in the not too distant future. I’m currently working on an ex LHD 240z and started a build thread. Not sure if my daughter is going to have this one or if it will be sold or I may keep it and sell another. I have spoken to your dad about it. It’s a very good shell but has had some battery area and chassis repairs. Was built and owned by Cambridge motorsport as a rally car. I have converted it to RHD already and am currently stripping the underside ready to paint and seal. It should be ready in a month or so. I also have a complete 280z coming but will need to assess its condition before I decide on its fate.

what happened to the 280z you were converting? Did you get BOA finished earlier than planned so the 280 went?

Whatever you are looking at, unless you are really handy with a welder and spraygun with a decent workshop space & ramp, I personally, would go for a solid shell & chassis over mechanicals. Personally, I couldn't put a beautiful shape car like a Zed on the road if it looked a complete shed but that's just me & some people like the Rat look. Datsuns have, for too long suffered with the 'Rustbucket' label so I couldn't drive round in something that lived up to the stereotype.

You will be able to find engine parts and mechanical parts easier than decent body panels and it will get you on the road quicker than if you had to replace wheelarches wings etc. and gets you feeling that driving experience and not total frustration. Mechanicals on S30s (and even S130s) are pretty simple and there are books that can help you which makes it easier to do things yourself and learn as you go. It also makes it cheaper on labour charges.

Good luck with the search & welcome to the forum.

@johnymd. Sorry i haven't posted sooner I have just gone away to Spain for a month.

Sounds seriously great! I've heard a lot about your cars from pops. It's great that it has been converted to RHD! Some UK driving at it's finest :) Great to hear about the 280. I know you and pops have been chatting about it so look forward to hearing about it at some point :)

@Farmer42 Thank you for your post and welcome. Couldn't agree more with regards to shell and chassis. Haha I've heard about the history and sometimes being known as a rust bucket. I'm pretty sure I want my car looking as pristine as possible :) hoping to change that stereotype!

It's good to hear that engine and mechanical parts are in supply! Aye pops has the Z manual so I imagine I will be reading into the late hours :) can't wait! Again thank you for your advice! Looking forward to keeping all posted as to my progress! :)

Hi Guys!

:) Check out my new motor :)

Pops has been a busy bee and found me a 260z!!! RHD, UK 1978 that has been in storage for the past 25 - 30 years. The car may seem familiar to some, Bob-On did a post which lead to Pops making contact.

So happy to say it arrived yesterday, really looking forward to making a start! Hoping it won’t take long as I’m very eager to get it on the road! The car itself is looking great and very promising. Just want to give a huge thanks to Chris Vega for casting his eye over the Z and to Bob-On for making all this possible.

The car is going to be kept totally stock. It has got all the original parts with an amazing amount of new old-stock parts purchased some 30 years ago, still in the wrapping from when the first stage of its restoration was planned. My resto-mod can wait for the future; I just love the car the way it is! It has the original flattop carbs and matching air filter, the original points are in amazing nick (might have something to do with the car being off the road for 30 years!) Paint job was done about 25 years ago and looks incredible for today, it needs work as there is blistering on the roof, and few things here and there. All in all, very excited and looking forward to learning everything there is about the Z :) I’m thinking a good long time studying the manual will help haha :)

The first thing we’re going to do is strip out the remaining interior parts, remove suspension, gear box, panels, wiring loom etc. Effectively taking it back to a shell in order check the quality of the work that has been done so far and what needs addressing. Basically just spending a bit of time working out where we are and what needs to be done body wise before we start on anything else.

I want to start a project thread with a name just like Richie’s “Project Dixie”. I want a Japanese name and am open to any suggestions :)

This is my first venture into cars and I am super excited to start! Pops says “patience” and “no, you’re not driving mine” :banghead:

Thank you all for your past comments and help on the thread, I think we’ve ended up with a motor that has great potential. It is so nice to finally become a Z owner and be a part of the cool cats club haha! :)

I will start a new thread documenting my journey from “total fresher” to “Z guru” haha :willynilly: Thanks again everybody for all your help and it was a pleasure to meet everyone at Oulton Park, I really enjoyed my first ever car show.

haha yes, I had a dozen lessons a few years back but being based in london and not needing a car I sort of let it go. But definitely need to crack on with that.

Nice one Addison, I love the colour, and a right hooker as well :)
I'll have to pop over before the wet season sets in and take a look.
