Vented 240Z/260Z Inspection Flaps

This is what I've had done.

And I like it a lot (if it's going to be in the same colour as the rest of the car) - looks like a 280Z bonnet which Nissan didn't change just for fun so it must work well !

I thought that the under-rad tray (that protects the oil pump) helped the airflow out of the engine bay and under the car ?

Opening the bonnet whilst in traffic and along m-ways has saved my engine twice (in my old greenie.

Never had a problem with this car - maybe if an engine is burning the right amount of fuel/air and there aint no unnecessary friction, the engine doesn't heat up so badly.....?

Would have thought it was there to let the air go under the car smoothly rather the into the engine bay and back out again

Isn't that what I said earlier ?:) I believe it helps pull hot air from the engine bay under the car and therefore helping to keep cooler - the engine !

seems like the inpection flaps would aid cooling better than the bonnet vents when the vehicle is on the move.

why not just run it with the bonnet removed like the escort boys do when drag racing

In other words THE beginning, maybe they didn't put them on for the states as a cost cutting thing just like no spoilers, no fuel flap lock & 4 speed box.:conf2:

No they put them on the US model to help engine bay air flow. Nissan were well ahead of the game here with smoothing under car airflow thus creating a low pressure area to the rear to allow hot air to escape. All part of the package with the rad cowl etc.
US models had no spoilers cos the Yanks couldnt (legally) drive fast enough for them to be effective.;)

Now thats strange Sean, i remember as a mere child wonderig why the local ice cream van always had his bonnet propped open with a wooden block, of course i know now but this dosn't always work on cars on the move, especialy on those with a sealed in belly pans, as the air flow gushing in between the bonnet and slam pannel has a negative effect of letting cool air through the radiator because of the raised air pressure behind the radiator in the engine compartment, probably just a piece semi useless information but i thought it may be of use to someone :p

THREAD REVIVAL!

Did these ideas ever get bottomed out or any cars get finished either way? Thinking of trying to do some heat extraction mods whilst the bay is empty but not too sure on what/where just yet
