Valved Exhaust Fitted

Well yesterday was the day I finally collected the car after 3 days in Demand Engineering nr Stowmarket in Suffolk. I had also a chance with my other half to see the guys do their magic. I had researched a lot to find a company who I would trust with my car.

I think I originally found Demand Engineering originally on Pistonheads. I think one of their members had used them for a job and while I knew there are excellent systems on the market and many of the members on here had systems which are brilliant, I wanted something no one else has and would have again. As they said last night they would never build the same exhaust twice and any number of components may force a change of say pipes.

I opted for a Cat Back system, with twin valves and remote control.

So I arrived on Tuesday morning first thing, to leave the car. Vicky who had guided me through the process from start to finish gave me a lift to the station to catch a train back to work, three days on public transport was a small price to pay for what I had been looking forward to for years, They even have a Golf with a side exhaust setup, it was awesome.

Now demand are a small company, I once visited McLaren - its was amazing, but had no soul, this is a true engineering company, they bend metal, they weld things, they bring metal to life. I will be honest I could have spent a week in there watching the work Jack and Dan did.

Yesterday was the collection - a few pictures of the car on the ramp when we arrived, they were carrying out the final fixings and plumbing in of the control systems.

The old Nismo system sat in a sorry state on the floor. When I helped chuck it in the metal skip I could not believe how heavy it was - it took a lot to carry the main box and pipes with one hand.

This youtube video shows the exhaust in its two modes - quiet and loud. The Alarm towards the end is when I set off the Neighbours BMW Z3 car alarm while it was parked in his garage. Ooops.

The drive last night with it on loud cruising, it was not an issue, no noise in the cabin, but drop a cog and its obscene. The stock quiet mode is slightly louder than the Nismo system and yet has a nicer sound.

The plus side was I (and actually my other half in the Passenger seat) noticed it felt more responsive. The system operates on a remote, open for Quiet and closed for Loud (it will take a little time to get used to that).

Under the car it is a absolute work of art.

In this shot you will notice one of the two valves:

While custom is not the cheapest route, it does allow a absolute choice of what the car sounds like, and how the exhaust looks. and finally the car sounds and looks perhaps as it should have done in the first place. Such a grin factor.

You seem a happy man. When I had my 370 (not Nismo) the exhaust was far too quiet for a 330bhp sports car. I preferred my standard 350Z sound.

Surely the 'old' Nismo system had value on Ebay?

Weight - yep, renewed my 350Z system and it amazed me how heavy it was.

Im surprised on the amount of surface rust under there on such a young vehicle, my 13 year old Audi of 100,000+ miles vintage, looks about the same!

The 370z was quiet compared to the 350z but when I looked into it - there seems to be an ongoing reduction and in the next 10 years cars coming out of production will continue to be quieter. I suspect we will see more Valved systems. The stock Nismo is the loudest of the stock exhausts but no where as loud as a stock 350z.

I have had it about a month now and it has given the car the noise it needed. It looked great but sounded rubbish. I also replaced the remote control which I could not get my head around with a self programming type so I can press either of the two top buttons now and its on and either of the bottom two and its off. That makes more sense to me.

I absolutely love it. I took a view the other weekend of the valves working

Yes the W Brace in particular seems to suffer quickly. The main underside is ok.
