Upgraded Cam choices and Replacement Rockers?

My L28 motor, now stripped for dipping, is ultimately going to become an 88mm bore, ld28 crank, flowed N42 head 10.5:1 comp, fast road motor.
I’m still pondering cam choices and whether it’s worth importing a Schneider cam, probably a 270/74. This is a 0.46” lift. I’m wondering what others may have used for a similar fast road build, are there any uk options? Does anyone have any recommendations?

Additionally what to do with the rockers is another issue I have. If I inspect mine and they’re ok should I just refit? Is there anyone in the UK that will regrind/finish the surfaces? I haven’t found much good info on replacement rockers apart from RHD japan which is way too expensive. I’m aware I’ll have to sort lash pads during the head build. What are people on here doing?

The Schneider cam kit covers all your questions - new rockers, new springs, correct lash pads and lube. You also get blanking plates for external oiling versions.
In my opinion, never install a new cam with old rockers. Standard valve springs (particularly old ones) are not up to the job of controlling the increased loads generated by increased lift.
Head work and valve seat lapping will have an effect so always double check wipe pattern and adjust as necessary.

Thanks Mike, I’m not sure I’ve seen this kit. I haven’t found it on the Schneider website. Have u got a link? I’d probably be interested if it came with rockers too.
Isn’t correct lash pads a bit of a gamble if ur rebuilding the head and recutting valve seats?

Send your cam to Kent cams. Get it reprofiled. They have a very similar gringd to the Schneider one you quoted.
You could use a slight increase to 0.475" But no more duration. Buy some new Schneider springs with the matching caps to suit deeper lash pads.
You will need some thicker lash pads but you wont know exactly what size till you do a dummy build. So just buy a couple of thickish ones to start.
Build it properly with matching supporting mods to get a smooth powerful roadgoing engine making 210 to 220 hp with about the same amount of torque
and a nice flat torque profile.
IMHO of course.
Been there ...done that....got the graph to prove it.

Thanks! What’s ur thoughts /
experiences with rockers?

Kent cams will regrind a stock cam to any profile you ask them for.
They won't supply lash pads or rockers or springs though, so if you want a kit, the schneider or isky are good and I think you can also get a kit from Kameari.

I was going for the stage 4 Schneider kit from MSA but due to this kit not being available (and hasn't for some time now) I had to look elsewhere. Ended up with the isky parts including cam, springs, retainers and caps. Also bought new rockers as mine were a bit too worn. I think the whole lots cam to around £1200. I would of used my old Nissan rockers if they were in good condition based on all the research I did. You take the risk of damaging the cam by running previously used rockers that already has a bedded in surface against a cam that needs to bed in. I looked at a very well known UK engine builder for zed engines and how he had built all these engines with original old Nissan rockers without failure. Then found I had no good rockers!!! I opted for a cam with just under 1/2" lift and 290 duration on my L28/88mm/LD crank/ n42 build and aiming for a low HP high torque engine on a budget. I know that's not the way to build a performance engine but I'm not building a race engine and want to keep the costs below £6k.
