Uninsured driver options

Hi All,

I have recently had an uninsured driver hit my car thay damaged while parked in my garage. It has a g nose kit and the front is now very damaged. I have always like the standard front end but like my flared arches and got the wheels to match. Is it possible to get a standard front end and blend that in?

Also not sure what to do about the insurance, the front end needed painting anyway, If I claim I'll loose as don't have protected no claims and pay excess, (although fully comp) im also 100 miles from the car and have taken off fuel lines so getting quotes etc will be a pain. Would you take the loss on the car or insurance, im so annoyed as they will get away with this.

pictures attached.

Any advise would be appreciated, i have crime reference number etc.

Many thanks,
Neil

Wow that is bad luck. If you inform your insurance company your premium will go up even if you don't claim. So you either don't tell them or claim.

You may have a problem if the repair would improve the original condition. Sometimes you have to contribute?

I think I'd repair it myself if I could keep it quiet from the insurer. Maybe even try my hand at fibreglass laminating.

Who is paying for the garage door? Could your damage be included in that settlement.

Very unfortunate that….. bad luck.

If it were me and I had the brass - I’d just be bringing forward my self funded resto. I’m sure I’ve seen gnose kits available - is there much other ( structural) damage ?

If money is an issue - I’d be going down the insurance route - ensuring I get a proper job done .

Don’t know much about these things - can you pursue a claim through MIB?

Bloody hell, gutted for you Neil. At least the Gnose has probably taken the brunt of it and prevented any structural damage to the car.

As Rob said, your premium will go up a tad, but maybe not a huge amount - hard to tell.

But I assume you'd need to declare it on all cars when getting any insured, so I guess it could affect insurance on more expensive policies too. Something to consider.

Pain in the butt but that’s wot yer got insurance for, sometimes it doesn’t go up as I drove into a brand new merc in my van last year when the driver decided to drive the wrong way down the road so if you claim off someone else’s insurance you shouldn’t lose yer NCB

Problem was there was a stolen car and bike involved and both got away, which doesn't make it easier. The car chased the bike and slammed into the garage, he was lucky to walk away.

Pity he could!

You'd think your car would be safe in a lock up. Very unlucky mate.

Best off taking all the fibreglass off and having a good look at the chassis for damage. That would be my first step, then you know what level of job/costs you're looking at.

Shame he walked,it’s always the poor innocent that get caught up that’s why I took out the complete side of a brand new merc 350 sl wen he was going the wrong way in a one way ,at least it stopped him going further and possibly killing/injuring some body further up the road

Bloody hell, you drove into him on purpose? That's risky! I know the insurance/police would always side with you as he was going the wrong way, but still a gamble! Good work. I bet you felt like a police interceptor 😂

If you claim off someone else's insurance you don't lose NCD but your basic premium goes up before NCD is applied. A lot of people don't realise that. That's even if it's not your fault. It's called a no blame claim.

Also fitted a really decent door, it prevented a breaking in previously but this was a bit too much for it.

I probably stopped the idiot hurting someone else but I’d do it anyway people in to much of a rush,I opened up a Range Rover up in London once with the wheel studs that stick out a bit on the Arctic I was driving,it opened up just like a baked bean can,the car driver got nicked,no sympathy from me wots so ever, and yeah as stated you claim off the other persons insurance if you can then you don’t lose, sounds like you live in Beruit

Unless your 'G-Nose' kit has somehow been blended into the standard bodywork in some way (moulded-in arches linked to it in front?), it should all come off and leave you with the basic structure of the standard front end.

All you should need - theoretically - is the 'short'/stock headlamp housings (sometimes known as 'Sugar Scoops'), the corner valance panels below them and the centre valance in the middle of them.

Only other thing I can think of is a pair of standard short-nose type bonnet hinges.

Must be a week for uninsured drivers
I got hit by a uninsured driver this week in my daily car whilst driving through county lane near my house.
After hitting me he slammed his car in reverse and drove of down a side road I gave chase and managed to box him in further down the road with another motorist
At which point I managed to grab the keys out of his ignition to stop him driving off again we had a bit of a set to then he legged it over the fields .
Lucky the Police caught him about a mile away but I’m left with the costs of repairs
