UK 260Z project car on ebay

This just popped up on ebay.

What does everyone think? The body looks to be in reasonable condition to me but I'm not sure how you'd know everything really was there.

I wonder what it will go for...

I have to say that I'm very confused by the section cut out of the rear panel!

Paul, you've got to be really careful. Get to know 240/260Zs before taking any action. People are buying these cars now from auction etc and doubling their price - seen it twice recently.

I'll look out for you if you give me a budget in a PM.

Yeah I guess it is!! I was looking at the front inner wings when I said that!

I am indeed wanting a RHD. One day I'll be in the right place at the right time :)

Paul, hang in there.. You'll find a RHD. Took me nearly a year. Was tempted at others, but held out and happy I did.

Rob's right, literally peeps doubling price on cars from auctions atm. I don't know what the legalities are, I'd post the one I know of that's doubled, but may be not the done thing, not sure!

lol..

I mean't legality of putting it on the forums about the prices i'd seen the car bought for his mark up!.. idk, will most likely get some joker telling me it's illegal.

I don't think knowing or pointing out the history on the car could ever be construed as illegal, but you might step on some traders toes if they happened to be on here. That being said I'm new myself to this world, so have no idea if that's the case.

On homes under the hammer yesterday, someone bought a house for £400k then sold it for £500k without doing anything to it. Its market value was £500k. Was it wrong for him to sell it for the market value?

Car dealers have been buying cars and selling for a profit for years. Some I would consider crooks but not all.

Back to the car in question. From the pictures it does look in pretty good shape but its so hard to tell without seeing the car. The problem with buying a 1 owner car at a premium is that you have just de-valued it because it is now a multi owner car.

Who said anything about traders ?

The ones I know about ( and Rob Gaskin has already posted about previously ) are on market and being flipped by so called ' private sellers ' although buying a car with the intention of re-selling at a profit is classified as a trade by the IR and should attract the respective taxes due.

Also said auction car(s) have not sold as far as I am aware. A seller can ask what he wants for a car, doesn't mean it will sell at that price, especially if condition of car is not equitable with it's price.

I was using trader as a catch all term for the any type of seller; be that private, a dealership or a specialist.

My point was, that on an open forum I don't think it's witch hunting or unfair to point out the public history of a vehicle if someone is enquiring about it within said forum. However, if anyone is going to be upset about it, it would be the 'trader/seller/dealership' or whatever status he was giving himself that would likely not wanting that information to be know.

I think it's clear that a lot of the cars on the market at the moment are overpriced, as evidenced by those that haven't shifted. Only the really good examples are making the money (or close to it) requested. The remaining cars (such as the black rhd on eBay) that aren't as strong examples, or don't appear to be as good, just aren't pulling the money being asked. I suspect that this is partly chancers, partly an obscured view of the market, and partly such a small overall community directing prices for good cars. Such as this happens in all niche markets from time to time.

Also, as an aside, the Inland Revenue was abolished in 2005 and replaced with HM Revenue and Customs - a re-brand to remove the negative connotations. But I do agree - such sales should be recorded as 'income' if designed for a profit at short notice, and not just an appreciable value over significant time.

The classified discussion is the most interesting part of the forum for many and if you look back through you will see many discussions detailing a cars' previous history whether related to condition or price and can be a great help in allowing potential buyers to make better informed decisions.

Black rhd car you mentioned Jon is a good example of this at work and yes seller may be on here and may not like what is said, but if what is said is factually correct, no problem.

If a car was bought at auction 2 months ago for X and is now on market for Y no problem at all outing it here, so what if seller may or may not be on the forum. Let us all in on it. He may have got incredibly lucky at auction or more likely just being a greedy bastard but let us decide.

With regards to your comments on market, this time of year is the quietest period for selling classics so cant read too much into length of time a car has been up for sale. If longer than say 6 months fair enough but otherwise be cautious on that one. Market is sleeping until March/April. Who wants to buy a car when it's wet cold and miserable outside. I wont even let mine out for a test drive if there is salt on the roads so that again is a hindrance.
