Tyres cracking/perishing within a few years

Dunno if this related to that. Got the ZX out of it bubble couple of weeks back. Two of my tyres had deep cracks in the side walls on the inner faces of the tyres - the side you don’t see unless you take the wheels off regularly. These were new tyres in 2015, Uniroyal Rainexpert 195 70 R14. Had to replace all 4 as the other two were starting to degrade. Real shame as they have not done many miles really so had loads of tread left and they performed quite well with bags of grip in the dry. I just hope the Yokohamas I’ve fitted will last longer.

Interesting. I use 303 Aerospace Protectant on my tyres to make them 'more black' but I'm not sure if that's a good now reading about tyre dressings. That said. it protects from UV so I think I'll keep on using it.

Fun fact - Lego makes more tyres than anyone else!

I remember getting some Michelin fuel efficiency tyres for my Renault Scenic and was surprised at the cracking in between the treads after only a couple of years.

I wonder if dehumidifiers or dehumidified bubbles dry out tyres quicker. You only have to look at what happens to rubber in the sun and environments with no moisture in the air. Perhaps the lack of moisture is good for the bodywork but bad for rubber?

Yet, the tyres on my volvo p1800, that hasn't been used since '84, are in visually perfect condition with no signs of cracking.

Ive recently replaced the tyre on my wifes car that are less than 5 years old, due to cracking. They have done around 5k. The car is 20 years old and coming up to 40k miles. on its third set of tyres now.
