Has anyone got the carpet that goes over the tunnel for a 260Z coupe that they don’t want or need ,need it for a pattern to get new carpet made up which is as near as original but better quality ,just need to borrow it for a few weeks, anyone restoring theirs might consider as don’t want to take mine off the road if I can help it

If no-one has one can you not make one out of paper or thin card? Is it heat formed into a curve?

Tunnel carpet on an S30-series Z is the same type of beastliness that gave us the mullet as a hairstyle.

    Don't do it, kids.

    ROFLMA!!

So is this true for all S30s? Mine has a mullet and I’m wondering if I should be going to the barbers!

Just need it as a template without taking mine out hence saving time then when new ones arrive just swop it over ,saves doing same job twice

It most certainly is. I recommend you take it back to its full original vinyl loveliness. Texture and aroma come free with the good looks.

    You know it makes sense.

I was under the impression that some Japan only models had aforementioned carpets...

Nope. No factory-fitted tunnel carpet in any S30-series Z variant. Vinyl only.

Is that the same for the 2+2? I was sure they had carpet which is what I was planning on doing!

Isn't that part of the footwell carpet shaping? ie, no specifically tunnel (only) carpet section?

I'd have to look in the factory parts lists to check, but I think there was an 'England' specific carpet set - or sections(?) - for the GRS30 models? There must also have been an option for the full 'vinyl'/'resin' (actually textured Urethane) interior set for wet & muddy territories, as I remember cutting one up for sections to use on something else.

Replacement diamond-pattern tunnel vinyl for 1969 through late 1973 cars is available, so if someone has stuck carpet down over it or removed it entirely then it can be restored, but I'm not sure about the availability of the smaller diamond pattern for the '73-up cars ('260Z' in UK market)? Maybe a gap in the market there?

Thinking back a long way, I remember buying a UK 240Z-specific (or so they said...) carpet set from a company called Coverdales?

Their full set included a single piece trans tunnel carpet which the centre console sat on top of. It wasn't really very good because it wasn't 'moulded' to shape and wouldn't follow the contours of the tunnel. It was so thick that the centre console didn't fit very well over it and it also required gluing down, so I didn't use it.

I have bought a carpet set from them, they do a 2+2 one. Not opened it yet though as not quite at the stage of putting carpet back in yet!

That’s why I didn’t go to Coverdale Allan as it’s not that good a copy hence asking if anyone has stripped their late 260 coupe out and has the carpet that goes over the tunnel which the centre consul sits on so I can get a set made up and make a template out of it for others to use if needed, ive found a good carpet which is close to the original but better

Now that Albrecht’s Adrian Street avatar has been replaced by Mrs Mills, now is the time to reveal that Mr Gutteridge, my old maths teacher in 73-74, appeared on Mrs Mills’ This is Your Life programme - a copy of which is on YouTube … someone I knew on the telly, seemed like magic back then …
